Can you mix 50/50 the leftovers for another fill, like Pennzoil 0w20 and Castrol Edge 5w40? Both exceed the service grade for the vehicle.
What exactly do you get with this mix, a 2.5w30 ?

If you're going to mix it is best to mix the same brand and lines. If you mix two totally different oils there is no guarantee the add packs will jive together very well

Sure you can along as they are both rated

Viscosity wise - you dont get what you think you get, but it doest matter much, if at all - if you are observing standard OCI's

Every time you do an oil change you mix new oil and old oil.

I have mixed 5 different brand, each being a different grade and I did this forever(more times that I can count). Although I don't do it often these days, I did it recently and it seemed to be the best oil I've ever used.

1qt Mobil 1 15W50 FS
2qts NAPA SAE 40 conventional
1qt Pennzoil Conventional 5w30 HM Blend
1qt SuperTech 5W20 FS
All in the Firebird in my signature and used it over 1000 miles this past summer. Engine was smooth & quiet that I hated to drain it. I ended up putting in ROTELLA Gas Truck 5W30 FS.

Is this a serious post? This subject has been beaten to death on here and I'm sure you know how to use the search feature. 🎣

Short answer: you end up with a mix that doesn't carry any of the approvals each of the constituents were approved against and, depending on the ratio, could be a 5w-20, 5w30, 5w-40 or even slip a winter rating and end up a 10w30 or 10w-40 depending on the base oil blend of the products being mixed.

Of course when you do this what brand of fire extinguisher do you have at the ready and how large?

Yeah, it's been beat like a dead horse. So what, it's still fun/good to talk about it.
Speaking of beaten to death oil subjects, I think we need a good ole fashioned 5W20 VS 5W30 Thread! :D
Opinions?

Jesus Christ what did you raid the oil drain bin at the local Autozone to come up with all those different grades? 🤣

Sounds like a great frankenbrew! I think as GF6 and SP oils become the norm mixing won’t matter at all. Seems like the add packs on SP oils are pretty much the same so additive clash shouldn’t be a problem.

Motor oil by design is mixable. Any one saying other wise is regurgitating bs. There are only a hand full of oil additive companies and only a hand full of oil companies on this Earth. Oils are ore alike than they are different.
