Is it ok to combine the Motorcraft 5W20 Syn Blend's two specifications (GF-4 and the new GF-5)? One of the local auto parts stores had the newer GF-5 in 5-qt. jugs, but sold only the GF-4 in 1-qt. bottles. Thanks in advance!

I can't imagine why it would not be okay. Some of the additive packs may be a bit different, but I don't think it would hurt anything at all.
I am sure that at the Ford dealerships the stuff is getting mixed in their bulk tanks. It won't hurt a thing.

Why not buy 2 5-qt GF-5 jugs and use the remaining for top off or next oil change ?

Silly people. Fords don't need "top offs".
No logic or method seen here in these responses. I would say NO! but better yet to ask the add pack formulator or maybe pose the question to someone at Lubrizol through their web service. Most will say (and Ive read) you will compromise wear protection if the add pack differ in basic constituents; So does a low/mid saps add pack patent I read last year showing much higher wear in seq iv if the pack was not balanced. That said, I just mixed SN 5w-20 and SN 5w30 MC-SS without having a VOA performed - just assuming they used the same package. I am Guilty! without being wrong.

Please....mix to you hearts content. Your vehicle will not know the difference. The GF-5 will be ever so slightly downgraded by adding some GF-4...you'll have GF-4.5.

Mixing in other cases can produce quite a good combination of additives, but in your case you are probably mixing the exact same oils! Different ratings but not likely to be any different.
Here's what I'm planning
1.67 qt 15w40 delo 400
1. qt 5w20 kendall full synth
1.5 qt 5w30 kendal blend

Again no logic. If you take a response without a qualification or a reference its WORTHLESS. But Thats the way of the world today - The Dark Ages. Here's what Exxon/Mobil says on the subject "... However, we would not recommend mixing oils as a general practice because oils are complex mixtures of additives and base oils that can be destabilized ..."
