Mix Mobil EP with Havoline?

Don't flame please.

I have a 5 quart jug of each in 5/30. Two cars to do, A volvo S60 and a Dodge Intrepid 2.7L.
Each have used synthetic before, no leaks at all. Currently the S60 has Mobil 1 5w30 (4000 miles +) and the Intrepid has TropArtic 5w30 (3500+ miles).

Any harm mixing both so I have a 50% semi? Or is this just plain dumb?

I wouldn't mix them. Put the M1 in the Volvo and the Havoline in the Dodge.

the volvo does not spec synthetic oil in the owner's manual ?!?!?!?

Id be running syn in the volvo as normal course of action. For the dodge, dont knock it because its a dodge and not a luxury brand, and it for certain can be as deservant of a syn oil as any other vehicle - it all depends on your driving style, driving profile, and your goals with the vehicle, how long you plan to keep it, etc.

Havoline is one of the best conventional oils, so its a great interrim solution. Given that the 2.7 engines have been known to sludge, you might just want to use it now (or buy Auto-RX, and use havoline for two changes to clean the engine out, then move it to synthetic as well - maybe not EP, given the sludging properties of some 2.7 engines.

It shouldn't hurt anything.

The only advantage to speak of might be slightly easier starts if you live where the temperatures go below freezing in the winter.

Use the MC in whichever one needs to be cold started and save the havoline for the other. Both outside? Save the Havoline for spring and dig up some more TA or MC 5-30.
