Hi guys,
I’ve got this Mityvac MV7201 I bought for $20 from a Amazon return auction.
It doesn’t seem to build enough vacuum to extract without pumping continuously. It will extract water out of a bucket but only while pumping. With actual oil from a engine I could barely get it to pull oil up the tube. It does dispense from the container perfectly well however.
I suspect the valve is leaking enough that it can’t build vacuum, but a replacement will cost over $50 so doesn’t seem worth it.

Any ideas of a generic valve I could replace this with? Even if I lost the dispensing functionality or had to switch the hoses around each time I wouldn’t mind.
The pump itself and all the seals at the top of the canister appear to be fine.
I tried re-routing the lines (see pic below) to by-pass the valve which does sorta work if you pump continuously. I guess I would need a check valve at the bottom port of the pump to build vacuum?
Any ideas how I could fix it on the cheap?
