Oil extracting using an a/c vacuum pump?

I have an electric vacuum pump that I used when I replaced the a/c compressor on my VW Jetta. I read about topside oil extractors as it would be ideal for me as I change oil at a parking stall outside our condo. Could I buy a canister to attach a suction hose and my vacuum pump to then draw oil from the canister? I know I could just buy a Pela OE but would like to use the pump I already have.

Yes, you can. Be cautious about your choice of receptacle as many container choices will have ok burst pressure but very little resistance to suction/vacuum.

Yes It works and I used empty 5 qts jug to catch it.


I'm stuck with this option so long as I have the Pontiac in my Signature because PO used to change oil at Walmart(OC stickers,the blue RTV they smear on the plug and OCOD says it was them) and they cross threaded the oil pan drain plug which frustrated me because there is no way for me to go back to the same Walmart LTE in another state.Don't know If I go to local Walmart ,Would they be willing to fix what another LTE missed up.

Thanks. Glad to know that it's possible. Now, are there ready made containers available? I basically need to use my manifold gauge's feed line (yellow tube) to attach to the receptacle and pull a vacuum on it while siphoning out the oil through a hose from the receptacle to the dipstick hole. I need a receptacle with a threaded nut similar to a Schreader valve's.
