Picked up one of these fluid evacuators today, mainly to make it easier to change oil on my boats outboard engine - it eliminates the need to pull the boat out of the water for oil changes.

I am really thinking this could also make oil changes on my car and van much easier, but the instructions for the Mityvac say the vehicle has to be on level ground, which means no ramp and I won't be able to get underneath to replace the filter.

Normally I change filter at every oil change (PureOne), but I am wondering if it would be safe to use a higher mileage oil filter (Fram Extended Guard?), and do two 6-7K miles oci's on one filter?

This way I could at least use the Mityvac on every other oil change.

Wish my vehicles had filters located on the front or at the top like some German brands.

You also have to check if your dipstick tube/sump is shaped in a way that allows the extractor tube to reach all the way to the bottom to grab all the oil. Sadly, many car engines aren't designed for it.

Your plan with a premium filter is right on. Our Honda even says in the owner's manual to only change the filter every other change.

My MV 7201 is quite a handy tool. It'll change the Cruze's oil completely, and gets most of it out on the Fit.

Since you have to be under there anyway I'd just do regular oil and filter changes and save the mityvac for transmission fluid changes. Works great to freshen up the transmission fluid regularly without a lot of mess.

The best way to check if dipstick tube is shaped in a way that allows the extractor tube to reach the bottom of oil pan is to try the Mityvac, then open the drain plug to see how much if any oil drain out.

It's good idea using Fram Extended Guard or Bosch Distance Plus to change filter on second oil change.

I agree, cartridge oil filter at the top of the engine is so easy and convenience to change along changing oil with Mityvac.

Not using the ramp, I don't think I'd even be able to get the drain plug off on my Honda.

The ramp tilts the vehicle significantly - probably not good for the Mityvac.

Does anyone here have specific experience with using the Mityvac on Honda Accord 4 cyl or Chevy Astro?

Of all my cars, Mityvac works best with E430 because the dipstick tube was designed to use fluid extractor. The LS400 is okay sometimes and not so good the other times, same for S2000.

How do I know if Mityvac works good or not ? Before I change oil I look at the dipstick to estimate how much in the sump, if Mityvac gets more than 98-99% then it's good, 95-98% is okay, less than 95% is not so good.

Mityvac got 98-99% or more from the E430, less than 95% on the LS400 and S2000.

could you explain this...? The 3 cars I've owned, typically only "show" the first 1-2 quarts on the dipstick.....

I.e.: Once you hit the "Add" line, you need a full quart to reach full....

At least, that's my experience anyways

Have been really considering a top-ender....I noticed Walmart has an Attwood 12v unit that powers through the cig lighter crank the power on, just not the engine up, duh)......but figure, I'd take like 2-3 changes to really "pay" for itself

Believe it was $23.....

Not too familiar with the "MityVac" brands, but there seems to be all sorts of part numbers/model numbers, etc. floating around the internet

Used the Mityvac on my Accord last night - I put the front wheels on the ramp because I wanted to replace the filter also.

After sucking out as much as I could get with the Mityvac, I took out the drain plug to see how much was still left in there - approximately a cup of oil came out. Not bad, considering that the vehicle was not level.

Put in Castrol Edge Titanium 5W30 and a Fram Extended Guard filter.
