I looked up his history. He left the USAF in 2013 and took a job in the private sector. I’m thinking there is likely no relationship between both being missing.

Looked his history and he’s a pretty technical guy. Doctorate from MIT. But as the director of the lab he probably wasn’t an expert but an administrator. There’s nobody like Tony Stark out there.
