My Jeep has some very minor rust where the sheet metal was bent upwards to form the bottom of the door. The actual rust is where the bent up piece is welded. Its more like paint-rust. I plan on applying a rust remover product with a artist's brush. After that maybe apply some Amsoil Metal Protector again with a brush.

I have some Krud Kutter rust remover. What might be better?

Other ideas?

Donald, are you talking about the lower door where the outer skin wraps up onto the inner door as shown in this picture:

If the paint seems to be bubbling up, it's a good chance that the rust is coming from the inside, pushing out. In that case, surface preparation and paint will only mask the problem inside. About the only thing I can think of is to have a good rust proofing applied to the interior (Krown/Rustchek)....they advertise that the product creeps into the seems and will "slow" the rust. Others might chime in with more opinions. Good luck.

My '05 Caravan is already doing this. I think some models have back stepped regarding rust inhibition.

About all you can do is grind the surface rust off, treat the underlying rust with a rust converter, then top with primer and paint. Top that with something like Krown, Fluid Film, or similar to keep oxygen separate from the metal to slow down the rust.

I'd pull the door panel, clean up as much as you can inside, hit it with a rust converter on the inside. Once that's all dried, etc, coat the inside with WD-40, as it will leave an oily film to prevent further rusting. Then, clean up the outside.

I'm going to be doing this to one of the doors on my Jeep soon, as it's starting to show a little bit of rust there (same with the hood).
