We need 'em. Now.

I was thinking local businesses could set aside a few marked spaces at the far corners of their lots: close to the road, far from their buildings.

These marked spaces are assured against towing as long as one picks up their car by, say, 10pm.

Benefit for the business owner is reduced real estate tax on the space he's lending. But he still has to maintain, plow, etc.

A store owner would have the benefit of candy bar and soda traffic while one party waits for the other.

These PNRs will be registered online and on maps along with the big boys by interstate interchanges etc.

Got thinking about this for parking a beater car a couple miles from work then riding a bicycle in the rest of the way.

In CT, the state already has created PNR adjacent to the highways. The one the next exit down is always overflowing to the point where one is now being built @ my exit.

Your private PNR is a good idea. Liability and "right to use" when the business parking lot fills up with customers seem the only drawbacks.

yeah I was thinking as far as liability is concerned the business owner would be shielded by the same quasi-government status that subway mass transit or toll highway companies enjoy. The business owner should be thrilled if one of his customers parked in a PNR slot and got vandalized; not his problem.

Around here zoning requires x number of parking spaces for x number of square feet in a building. The building owner knows whether he'll actually use that many or not, but he had to lay all that tar to get his permits.

We have some here for our college. Meijer (local north/east chain) has them in their parking lots and one of our fire stations here also offers park-n-ride. It's a great deal for most people, but I prefer to just drive since I love driving so much.
