Mild roach infestation

The place in Germantown has a few little bugs in it. I maybe sprayed about 4 in the course of a week, maybe 5 .. Three were in the bathroom, Raid MAX squirt, gone. (I no longer waste the product by dousing them, I never had to spray more than two squirts on a mid-sized roach) and two of those were little tiny baby roaches. (I have seen this before in a house, that means one of the roaches is breeding is where they are coming from. I get that one, it stops the babies) and two were in my room.
They are all sorta thin and wiry; the mid-size one I saw in the kitchen, I did not have my spray at that time.

I do not see them every day.

What would you do to continue to decrease this infestation?

Foggers = expose every roach you cannot see
Spray = kills and mostly disintegrates the roaches on contact
WD-40 dries them out, kills them too.

Have not yet seen a full-size nasty roach. They are the Sandy Brown American roaches, not German.

How would you go this alone?

I pay a guy $35 every couple of months and it is well worth it. Really helps keep the bugs away and the price isn't that much different from store bought products.

Two sticks of dynomite. I hate those things. Nasty. Clean, clean and clean some more. Then start spraying inside and out. Their coming into the house for a reason.

Couple of roaches been coming back and forth into my home.

I used a simple roach killer in bathrooms , showers, and enter points of house.

Killed about 10 in past week. Havent seen any come back. I saw babies roaming around so the nest cant be that far.

there is thing called roach bait, its hit or miss reading online. Might be worthwhile if u know where they are coming from.

IMO this should be your landlord's problem. A whole building sweep through is likely in order.

A pro is probably the best way to go.
In the meantime make sure the place is operating-room clean. I did this and put different brands of the baits everywhere, especially corners. I put them under the stove, in the cabinets, on the floor etc.

I was going to get some roach "gel," put it on metal plates, and cover some holes in the ceiling from unfilled electrical outlet spaces with them.

As to what kills roaches: WD40, PB Blaster (no that does not lubricate them,) Raid MAX, spraying on walls, defoggers, vigilance, not letting them get food or water.

I guess you could set them on fire, too...

Yeah, they leave the kitchen lights on all day and say "there aren't too many of them." Pretty sure the idea there is that they don't come out in the light. Oh, they will, if they have to...

If I call landlord and ask for exterminator to come, they will, but then I will see all the hidden roaches, no?

And yes, I live in a building with some slobs. I do not utilize the kitchen. I sometimes go in there with my spray, to see if I can pick one or so off.. and there is one room tat I believe likely houses the bugs.

I could set the fogger off in there, but then I must be prepared to finish the job when the roaches we ANT see comes out of the demon hole.

However, I have seen some truly, majorly infested buildings, which is why I categorized this as "mild." Major would be that yes, I see them everyday, more than one, in multiple areas. I have only seen them in a few areas, so I know where they are concentrated.

Again, I have never seen a full-size roach here yet, these all look scrawny. And yes, they are roaches.

I believe in spraying along the walls, ceilings and along moldings and places where they can go in/out with Raid MAX, the traps they seem to avoid IMHO. They cannot see or sense that they are walking over poison when they stick to the walls.

I can come home at night to a dark house, turn the light on, look hard at the walls, ceilings, corners and not see them.
I can do the same in the bathroom, killed one medium roach and two little tiny babies in there the other day.
They are still downstairs in the kitchen and yes its the other tenants that dont really care, they dont seem bothered by a few bugs... I am...
It should also be pointed out that it hasnt gotten bad enough that I can see them just by going in there, they really do seem to be hiding from the light and apparently they have another food source because I do not see them 80% of the time.

I am also the only one here with a can of Raid MAX and I opted to get that over WD40, which does work but you need to spray longer to dry them out, and displace all their water.

The gel bait stuff works OK, and the real stuff sold on ebay for $40 for two long lasting tubes is one I have not tried yet.

Its a combination of all methods that seems to get them to go away. Pull out your fridge and stove,and puff the boron chalk powder back there sold at 99 cent stores. Puff it along the back wall behind fridge and stove. they will crawl out in the open to die by the next day. If none come out of there use the gel bait in the moisture prone areas. Raid max under your cabinets and then hit lines/cracks that are accesible with silicone. If you can imagine an escape route double the poisons in those areas. You have to get them coming and going. My current house was vacant a while, and next door was vacant a year after we moved in. Its a terrible fight and i didn't want to use a professional yet because they wanted a huge deposit to start.

Getnpsi mentioned "boron" chalk powder. Is that the same thing as the Harris Roach Tablets with boric acid? http://pfharris.com/pages/roachproducts.html I have those scattered all in drawers and behind appliances, and it does help. In the '60s our French Quarter apartment was overrun with the bugs, and the HRTs were the only thing that got the infestation down to a dull roar.

There's no such thing as a mild roach infestation. If you see one there's prolly thousands you don't see.

I speak from experience. The best way to get rid of these pests is to purchase some boric acid (a white powder, like flower), and spread it anywhere these guys walk. It will take a few weeks to do its job, but it will work.

Traditional pesticides are avoided by these creatures and most have built up a resistance. In addition, the guys killed by a pesticide will still give birth a week or two later and then the creatures are back. But boric acid is taken back to the nest and eaten there and dead guys are also eaten, thus killing them all off, but again, this takes a few weeks.

They are looking or going after something.

If you have neighbors or tennants in the building that are slobs then this will be a constant and uphill battle.

A large part of the time all you can do is treat your apt, and stay on top of it.

Personally, I'd call the landlord and make sure he knows about it. He can't do anything if he doesn't know.

My brother-in-law had a similar issue.
He called his landlord who brought in a professional. Turns out that the elderly cat-lady 3 doors down was a horder and she had the infestation that was breeding all the other issues.
Nobody would of found out if my Brother-in-law had never made that initial call.

Get some 'Hot Shot' concentrated pest control at Home Depot or Lowes. Mix the little bottle with a gallon of water in a sprayer and spray baseboards in kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room or wherever else in your house you presently have roaches...the stuff works good for me!

Boric acid. When i was young we had a bad roach problem for a while. Bought some boric acid and it dissapeared.

When i got older and owned my own home, every once in while when i saw a roach, i would some down and that would take care of that.

Whne you see one or two, they have many more friends an family hiding

^^^He's right. Boric acid. Sold as Roach Pruf powder, very cheap.

Or bait them with commercial bait. Since they eat each other's waste this quickly kills them ALL.

Probably migrating from another location close if they were bombed or ran out of food. Stay clean, they will keep going.
