We bought a whirlpool french door freezer on the bottom and it's just out of warranty. It's had a few issues in the first year and tonight it completely quit working powers up but doesn't cool at all. I'm beyond done with this pile of junk! My wife wanted it which is why we got it. I was searching on lowes.com and ran across a brand called midea. Did some research and it appears to be a huge Chinese company.....the compressor on the whirlpool was made in china so probably doesn't matter. They are priced well. Has anyone had any actual experience with them? Parts seem be to available and reasonably priced as well. Let me know what you think of them. Thanks everyone!!

Midea from how I remember bought Toshiba's appliance business. Yeah they were huge, like GE or Whirlpool huge. Last I check they are relatively reliable but not as refined as the Western brands (loud, vibrate more, etc), but they are sturdy. That's about 10 years ago. It is probably better now.

Think I would get a service call and obtain an estimate first. If this appliance is only 3 yrs old, I generally attempt one major repair (or at least get an estimate) to determine cost of repair. After 7 yrs, I generally jump to replace.

I bought a Midea 3.cuft freezer on Amazon ($249. now), and it's been really good. It was so quiet, I didn't think it was working, but will get 0 or sub zero. It can't be using much electricity because I've had bills as low as $30. in spring or fall.

Wonder if they are still using the Japanese Toshiba crew to design their products?

Toshiba always had a good reputation for appliances way back when.
