why are we playing backyard chemist mixing two completely different oils?
Mainly because I had 10 qts left of the 0w-20, and lots of 5w-30, and split it between two oil changes. It’s out of warranty this fall and plan on switching it over to 5w-30 or 0w-30.

2 out of 7 qts isn’t going to cause any major issues. How many of you guys run one qt HPL and 4 QTs of x oil, how many of those cause issues?

HPL EC30/40 formulated to mix with other oils. You are mixing two completely different oils.

Can you point to where it says it’s formulated to blend with any oil? I don’t think it is anything special for blending. I think the only reason they tell you to blend it is the fact it will clean to much to run full strength on the first oil change.

it’s really not an issue. Many shops use vac pumps to change oil and they leave quite a bit of oil. Then use a completely type different oil, maybe a synthetic vs conventional.

Again it isn’t any different from any other oil, in terms of mixing. All oils have to be compatible to mix. There isn’t some gel that is going to form.

Mixing two high quality oils, will still be a high quality oil.

Mixing viscosity also doesn’t matter in terms of gelling or some chemical reaction. Most companies say not to mix viscosity because they don’t want to be held liable for using a higher or lower viscosity than factory recommended. Clearly HPL is also fine with it.

See the quote from Mobil.

Many of us have mixed oil at least once or twice in our days so don't let it bother you. Great to see one of our board favorite beauty queen filters holds up real nice in a diesel application. :D
