I am not doing well trying to find oil filters. Bought a case of Premium Guard made MicroGard Select MSL10255. Center tubes are littered with this greasy metallic coating. I'd assume from stamping. You can see the discoloration/grease on the center tubes. When wiping with a finger, they have metal bits.

These are going back. I do not know what I want to buy anymore.

That's unfortunate and I don't know of a good way to clean the inside of the center tube?
This from RA or Oreilly's?

This is a case of 12 bought off of an eBay seller who routinely sells lost freight. But this would be what's sold at OReilly's.

Perhaps they're (A) lost freight (B) defected returns? The whole case was sealed and every filter has the box and shrink wrapped plastic on the baseplate. So I doubt they've been seen before.

The other case I bought of MSL51522 for the Suburban last year were beautiful and still using.

I cannot reiterate this enough to anyone on here. Inspect EVERY oil filter even if that means unboxing the entire quantity you buy.

Even if you were to try to wipe the inside clean it would just push some of the debris inside the holes where the rag doesn't reach.

I wonder how widespread this is, not something most people check for even during C&P's.

PG quality control might be going downhill now, seen another thread with loose/broken glue.

I would avoid ordering oil filters online unless you have no choice, buy in store so you know for a fact you are not getting defective returns.

Poor quality control is unacceptable whether it is from M+H, PG, First Brands, etc, difference is PG seems to take their QC more serious and as of right now we have no indication they are just trying to cover it up, or act in bad faith and this could have been defective returns since it was an ebay purchase.

M+H (Purolator) on the other hand has piss poor customer service responses, refuses to offer efficiency ratings despite saying on their website they will on their contact us page, and after countless glue issues, tearing issues, closed louvers, end caps not glued, etc, there is no indication these issues are being resolved.

I would love to purchase Purolator made in USA products if they solve these issues and if the efficiency is at least 99% at 30 Microns, if they solved these issues even on the Purolator 20K I would pay more then the $8.47 it costs, is it too **** much to ask for a decent product that I don't have to worry about failing being used on my vehicles?.

Weird that you’re able to buy these on eBay. These are an O’Reilly house brand.

I don’t know why someone would just have an extra case of these floating around they couldn’t just return and bothered paying the fees and cost of shipping to sell them on eBay.

I’m not defending the filters I’m just thinking out loud here. My first thought would be an employee is buying them with their discount then selling them online which is strictly prohibited. I find it odd they ended up with them as “lost freight” as all O’Reilly shipping from warehouse to store is done by O’Reilly corporate owned trucks. An exception would be ship to home orders which are done via UPS but I doubt someone ordered a whole case of filters on the website?

I pulled a random new MSL10255 off the shelf just now, wiped my finger inside it, and didn’t come up with anything.

Last year, before I bought a case of MSL51522 for the Suburban and some MSL57356 for the 1025R/Polaris... (usual Honda size) I e-mailed the seller selling these, and this was the exchange. I was curious how these got on eBay. For the record, those two packs were and still are great.
