I've had the original M/S before and it was an excellent tire. But I agree that $60 is nothing to move up to the next generation and I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Plus, as the M/S becomes less available in the future, any tire replacement that may be necessary (due to either a defect or a road hazard) may have to be with an unmatched tire. Not ideal in my opinion. Hopefully you won't have any problems with them (and you shouldn't).

Oh, I understand on paper that it is a better tire! Just that there seems to be little real-life experience with them, which is not the case with their predecessor.

BTW, compared to the GoodYear Silent Armor tires that were on there, these are NIGHT AND DAY.

Better traction, handling, ride quality. If it can be better, this tire is doing it better.

Driving them back-to-back within an hour of each other.... Wow.

I'm not sold on the new tread design. It looks really lame.

What is the cheapest anyone has found the LTX MS-2 tires for size is 265/70/17

I have 70,000 miles on a set of LTX A/S tires on a dodge diesel, they still have at least 5,000 more tread miles but at 5yrs old the sidewalls are cracking. I am looking for new tires and the MS-2 look really good. What are some stores that carry the Michellin tires I think sears used to have decent prices.

Michelin LTX M/S 265/70-17 is $166.34/ea (or $665.36 for 4) plus shipping from onlinetires.com. They are in California so that shipping cost to Alabama may be somewhat high, you need to check the shipping cost from them.

PS They don't have LTX M/S-2, ask them if they are going to have it in stock soon.

I put a set of LTX M/S on my truck earlier this year, mainly because of the $70 rebate from Discount Tire. I'm glad I did, while I only have 5k on 'em they are great and the ride is excellent.

That's like judging an oil's performance based on color in the bottle!

I would not hesitate to purchase the new gen design.

We run the old M/S Michelin LTX on all our fleet trucks.

When I put them on my Silverado I thought I got free shocks! Rode and drove so much better.

They are the cream of the crop, and well worth the difference.

Tell me about it, the Goodyear's felt like hockey pucks compared to these!

I have 60,000Km on these now. Going by how they are wearing, they'll likely be good for at least another 20,000 before I replace them due to snow traction concerns. Without that factored in, they'd easily do 100,000Km.

Michelin does own BFG ,but those tires are not built to the same standards as the Michelin. IMO the long trail ,and LTX are not in the same league.

I've had great luck with a few sets of LTX M/S

I agree with this. I owned a set of the Long Trail T/A Tour, the one currently marketed for light trucks and SUVs, and I will say that I was not impressed a bit with them. In fact, I returned them after 1,000 miles and had a set of Michelin Cross Terrains installed. The Long Trails were rough and rather loud on what is otherwise a quiet SUV. The Cross Terrains returned the refined demeanor to the car.

I only had one set of Cross terrains. My 99 Dodge Ram felt like I had changed out the entire suspension!

Impact harshness was WAY down, and wet traction was dramatically improved. I didn't get to see how long they lasted but they wore like stone as well.

Ours certainly won't last forever. Despite their 65,000 mile warranty, their tread wear rating is only 420. As I normally get about 100x the tread wear rating in miles, I expect somewhere on the order of 40-45k miles out of these. So far, they're wearing at a rate where I will be starting to look at replacements at about that time.

The Cross Terrain is still made in my size, but sizes are dropping fast, and Michelin says that the entire line will be discontinued within the next year. They don't yet make this size (P235/65R17) in the standard Latitude Tour, but they say that before this size is disco'd in the CT, they will have it available in the LT. Once it's available in the LT, and when I need new tires on it, those will be my doughnuts.
