I remember going to see Jurassic Park at the theater in Lake Wales Florida when I was 13. It was spectacular. Especially that first time in the theater! I'll never forget it.

I wasn't sure if my dad was gonna let us watch the movie so I had obtained a copy of the book. I didn't read it until after I saw it after the theater.

The book was very intense. Sometimes I think of rereading the book to see how much differently I will see things.

I went on a Crichton rampage reading so many of his novels. I used to have an first edition of Congo . Eaters Of The Dead exposed my young mind to all kinds of debauchery and violence. I read that one twice over. He was a good writer.
I will have to read The Lost World now.

I read everything he wrote after first reading "Rising Son" to see what all the Japan bashing was about. I think I was in high school. I quickly devoured everything Crichton. Can't say I have been happy with ANY of his movie adaptations, though.... Congo was the absolute worst.

He was the unquestioned expert at being able to lecture us and make us like it. There's a lot of factual info in his novels, and it's fascinating.

Have a look at his nonfiction book "Travels," from 1988. It'll give you a glimpse into his personal life, and details his medical education (several times he wanted to quit medical school, but hung in there) and his adventures around the world.

I agree about the movies.

Some of the speeches on his website are excellent.

ER was one of the best shows put on the air in recent decades. I quit watching it a couple of years ago as my favorite characters left and they introduced some weird story arcs, but it will be in syndication forever.
