I was in AAP today buying a filter for my wife's car and my truck. Since I use P1 filters on the car I have a habit of looking at the filter for the gold paint overspray. So I guess this is why, out of habit, I opened the box of the AC PF48 for my truck. What I saw, just under the flange where the rubber gasket sits is enough metal shavings for a good start on a woolly willie toy.
I grabbed another AC. I assume they were shavings from machining the filter, but it really pays to look these things over before you carry them home or worse install them on a vehicle.
