I think their additive package just contains those higher levels of chemistry.

If Valvoline is stating "full synthetic," this usually means the base oil complement is composed of Group III, IV, and V, base oils in the current vernacular of marketspeak.

The Ford products have historically been blends of Group II, III, and IV base oils.

Valvoline's Sodium content is most likely a rust inhibitor, while the iron content is in reality a metal inhibitor. A metal inhibitor typically keeps any metals from catalyzing with other ingredients to reduce oxidation potential.

This is not to say that Ford's ULV does not have rust inhibitor's or metal inhibitor's.
