Media Is Lying About Chinese EVs—And Here's the Proof

I learned my lesson about buying low priced chinese goods 30+ years ago. In an effort to save money but have that cool car stereo I would buy heavily featured, but cheap chinese head units. They inevitably glitched in rediculous ways and died an early death. It only took a few runs before learning that buying a basic pioneer or alpine unit that actually worked and lived a long life made a lot more sense. I watched a few videos about how many amazing features a $40k Chinese EV has while remembering those head units. Feature rich, quality poor. Don't even get me started on brakes. This is what I think of:

Unless it's built in a factory to strict US standards, CCP anything is a craps shoot. I've stuck with many things over the years due to brand loyalty (LL bean) but still irritates me seeing "made in china" on the tag. I'd never buy an EV but if I did it would be from Elon.

GM is the closest alternative to Tesla in the mainstream segment but… it’s not even close.

Rivian will get there sooner than later. From my understanding the Rivian Amazon vans have been very reliable thus far.

If you live in the US I think that Tesla, Rivian, GM should be on your EV shopping list (once the R2 comes out - the R1 is just too expensive IMO).

That video was hilarious and yet she said it all with a straight face. Big screens and flush door handles? Where did those ideas come from?

Car manufacturing is difficult and the Chinese automakers have gotten most of it right and are improving very quickly. The stuff she mentioned is easy to fix in comparison to the challenge of high volume manufacturing. I look daily for complaints from local owners of these cars and I don't hear any more than I do from owners of Korean brands or Shanghai-made Teslas.

Because I can just like you, why should I avoid it? Because you don't like my opinion of a particular brand? LOL I do not have a problem with ev in general mostly my 42c kwh electric rate,
I was commenting on the "I would never buy an EV" part of your post.

Cold weather performance is becoming a concern. Chinese models struggle more than expected. 30-40% loss in winter. Sales growth to weaken due to saturation. 50 Chinese brands could face closures.

This was likely to happen. Just look at all of the automotive brands lin the USA in the 40"s and 50's.

Then why are you even bothering with this section of the site? Is this just the place everyone can't help but dump on EVs because they aren't getting enough activity in the conventional section?

Because losers like our new NJ Govn, is STILL pushing to eliminate gas cars by 2035. Until that ends 100%, you're going to get pushback on EV's. And I'm happy to be one of those "pushers".................
