McDonalds switching to fresh beef

If you recall, McDonald's used to have heated transfer bins where they kept burgers already made. The holding time was for 8 minutes(standard) before being tossed and usually allowed just enough time for the cheese to melt..combined with fresh meat made for a ok burger, fast and at a fair price. Waste was high if production was not controlled properly. Burgers sitting in the transfer bin too long were also junk.As the menu expanded and more products were added with lettuce and tomato etc the old system was dumped.

Its not making me want to go to McDonalds, its awful tasting stuff. If I need to eat when out at lunchtime I find a good old fashioned diner.
I guess they don't fit in today's world, no wifi, coke in a real glass, food you have to wait for because they are cooking it to order right in front of you on a grill. Not many left.

We reap what we sow. tripe in ~ tripe out.

as for "moderation in all things" that's for the weak, the dull of mind, the unconscious masses lacking the ability to do or not do...

as Dan Millman said...
“Moderation? It's mediocrity, fear, and confusion in disguise. It's the devil's dilemma. It's neither doing nor not doing. It's the wobbling compromise that makes no one happy. Moderation is for the bland, the apologetic, for the fence-sitters of the world afraid to take a stand. It's for those afraid to laugh or cry, for those afraid to live or die. Moderation...is lukewarm tea, the devil's own brew."

a Royale with cheese...

I am willing to bet that the beef is still frozen during shipment but thawed before cooking. I cannot see the transportation of fresh beef all over the world as safe. Imagine fresh beef patties in Kuala Lumpur for example.

Fresh or frozen it's still the same mystery meat from who knows where that's contaminated with drugs. McDonald's is the poster child for the difference between edible and nutritious. You can imagine what you get when their burger is cheaper and their reported profit margins higher than ever.

There might be a change in the wind that is causing McDonald's to respond. Business for McDonald's across America is down over the past 18 months and so far not coming back up at any pace that would be characterized as a recovery.

If you need a burger fix on the run try In-and-Out for a big step up in quality.

I hope it might actually taste okay. Food choices are abysmal in so many parts of USA especially traveling. To have one somewhat edible food item would be nice given the prevelance of this place.

So many good choices locally I am spoiled.

Micky D's used to depp fry their apple pies. That was good stuff.

whe we moved from Basking Ridge, New Jersey to Andover. MA in the early 60's we went to a MacDonalds in Andover (the one where Jay Leno Worked) IIRC, sitting in the back of dads 63 Ford Fairlaine convertible ( GREAT car!) the burgers were 10c cheeseburger 15c and fries 15c. No enclose at the building, like a Clam stand a the beach. They would reluctantly give you extra ketchup in a paper tartar sauce (dunk cup) if you asked.

I think the McD's stuff tastes the same except the fry oil made the fries maybe 40% less tasty - and then there is the non-fried (baked) apple pies - Still good but not, "oh I died and went to Purgatory!' good

YES! LOL

Dittos on the quarter pounder with cheese. Yep there are some up and coming burger places but not everyone has a In and Out or a Five Guys in their area. The price of hamburger itself has relegated it to the special occasion food where I would serve hamburger steak.

Differences in fast food meat? I'll bet they get their patties from the same mega processing plants.

I worry more about handling and shipping of non frozen meat. The stuff has so many salts and flavorings does it matter?
You got that right ARCO. I used to think Wendy's was the best burger in town. Haven't been there in five years. Just something about their burger that doesn't taste right. NOT going back. In our city, Runza seems to make the best burger. And the service is always good and accurate. Our local Burger King is a disaster. Lots of noise and most of it is coming from the kitchen, especially the boss who has a voice that can be heard for two blocks. Just an unmitigated disaster. And your chance of getting what you ordered is 50/50. Any little change from the standard seems to throw Burger King for a loop. Won't even go in MacD. We used to go to Applebee's every few months, but their prices have soared and the standard steak plate looks like something from a third world country. Told my wife if she wants to go there for her birthday that I would pay for it but NOT going. Once through Panda Express did it for me. NOT going back. Grumpy old *@#%.

After Dave Thomas died, the quality went downhill fast.

Oh, you noticed that too.. That was the beginning of the slide. Did his daughter fat wendy take over the helm or sell out? ( not the cute Wendy-esque models they use in their ads

WIKI time I guess ...

I used to get cravings for them periodically. Those went away with the pink slime debacle. Full of sodium and saturated fat and who knows what else.
