Included Blackstone comments. I've moved on to different products, I feel I've hit my limit with the factory setup 7500 mile oci was 1yr. 50/50 city/highway. 10,291 mile oci change in commute 75 miles a day 10/90 city/ highway. I'd like to know more about how to read TAN although I don't know the virgin TAN, I know the oil is spent and it has been changed. Not worried about the slight acidity, but would like to know more about the limits when using both numbers to make decisions. Thanks everyone for your interest and comments.


Amended for TAN. The improved wear after a longer oil change
is a great sign that your engine has moved past the wear-in stage.
Hopefully it will produce nice, low wear numbers like this for a long time to come.
Universal averages are based on ~6,400 miles of oil use,
so you're getting better-than-average wear on a longer oil run,
and that's a great sign that no problems are developing inside your Duratec.
The TBN was getting low on active additive at 1.4,
and the TAN of 5.1 shows light acidity.
Try up to 11K miles on the next sample if you like.

Don't worry. You did a 10.3K and still have a safety net. I would not extend your future OCI any further. But this is a good oil and a better engine, Congrats.

I would have capped the OCI at 7-8,000 miles, but this UOA is not bad at all. This report looks better than a lot of "full synthetic" oil analysis reports for similar cars.

This is exactly the report I've been looking for. Just finished a 7500 mile run on MC syn-blend 5w20 with MC oil filter on my 05 Toyota Matrix. Usually by 5k miles the oil is black and ready for a change. But at 5k miles this time the oil was a nice honey color just a tad bit darker compared to new. At 7500 miles the color was a medium honey color and a quarter of a quart low. I was checking the oil very regularly over the last few hundred miles which is when the consumption happened. I've done used oil analysis in the past and probably will do another one again. I know color isn't a tell all but this UOA is reassuring. I'll probably stick to 7k mile oci's.

Previous oci's have mostly been done at the toyo dealer with bulk oil and a toyo oil filter. I've asked them what brand oil they use and was told whatever the manager orders. Went to firestone where they use kendall and a no name oil filter. Oil was still black by 5k. Prob because of the subpar oil filter they use. Went to ford dealer last two times where I get a great oil and filter. Not bad for $20 with coupon versus $36 at toyo dealer but now they use toyo bulk oil. Which I believe is Mobil 5000.

I'm glad it helped. The oil on the dipstick also looked a medium honey when I changed it. I couldn't tell anything from looking at it, it still looked servicable. This oil was a ford dealer change btw. I would buy the 5 qt bottle and filter from walmart and change it myself, I think the off the shelf oil is even better. I also wondered how Quaker State Ultimate Durability would work out for a couple bucks more. But, I went the route of the full synthetic 0w20's and the Toyota dealer had a sale!
