I know this question will have many opinions but I need some solid feedback. I drive a 2002 F350 Ford Super Duty 7.3 diesel with 42800 on the odometer. I use the MC 15w40 Power Stroke diesel oil with the MC diesel oil filter changing both every 5,000 miles with out fail. I have no issues with the MC diesel oil, but it gets harder to find in the 5 gallon jugs and I do not like buying it in the quart bottles because my truck takes 15 quarts at each oil change, too many bottles to deal with. I see the shell Rotella T 15w40 is available at most places in the 5 quart jugs.I know the Rotella T 15w40 is a good seller, but is this the better choice for quality compared to the MC 15w40? I also know the 7.3 diesel has a foaming issue with certain other oils.

Thanks Ruby

IMHO, Motorcraft 15w40 is better than regular rotella-T. You can buy Conoco Hydroclear 15w40 and have almost the exact smae thing or even actaully the same thing because Conoco-Phillips makes Motorcraft oil. Another oil which is very easy to find that performs almost idnetical to the Motorcraft stuff is Chevron Delo 400 15w40. Other than those two, my next suggestion would be a couple synthetic choices, but I have a hunch you are happy with dino.

Ruby if it were me I would run Delo over the Motorcraft ans Rotella.

If you can find the link to the tons of used oil analysis kept by the person over at TDS, you will see that Motorcraft 15w40 may be the best performing conventional oil for powerstroke use. I would say that Delo is very close in performance based on these used oil analysis but I would have to give the slight edge to MC. Rotella, performed adequately but definately trended worse in general, than MC or Delo.

I'm involved in the maintenance of a small fleet of 7.3 PSD's and we have great results using Delo 400. The MC works well but is quite a bit more expensive than the Delo which works just as well. Three of 15 7.3's are just over 270K with no oil related problems and only minor repairs otherwise. It’s hard to beat Delo for price/performance, IMO. My next choice would be Shaeffers.

Hammer,

Thanks for the great advise, I have read on other forums MC 15w40 is a decent oil and ditto for the Delo as well. I will make every effort to use the MC first then the Delo second.

Thanks again

1040 WreckerMan,

Thanks also for your feedback. I have heard many say Delo is a great oil.

Thanks again
