Has anyone used or using Motorcraft 15w/40 diesel oil in a GAS engine?
I keep seeing this oil at Wal-mart all the time, and I just wondered if this oil has the same reputation as Delo400 15w40 or Pennzoil-LL 15w40 for gas engines.
or is this oil striclty a diesel oil?

if that's the case, will it be dangerous to use this in a gas engine or to mix with regular oil in a gas engine?

Any feedback is appreciated.

There is a construction company in the Dallas Fort Worth area that runs 15w40 in all their heavy equipment and their gas engines in their v10 Ford Trucks. They report no engine problems in 100000-200000 miles before the equipment is sold at auction.

I have MC 15w40 at this moment in my LS1 Z28. I should mention though that I did add 1qt pf Red Line 10w30.....for the moly and ester. Current ratio is 5.5qts to 1qt of MC/Red Line.
No problems, noises or other adverse symptoms so far. I believe it is a very good oil. Too bad the Wallys around here don't carry it anymore.

I suspect it's a lil thick for your climate in winter. Sound like a great summer oil. 5w30/ winter, 15w40/summer.

My old oilfield company ran ursa straight 30 in all their pickups and they all ran at least 200,000 with some serious abuse. I know one chevy 5.7 that was at 360,000 and was still in service...must be something good in that hdeo

AudiJ,

I am only going to use the 15w/40 Mc to top off, if there's consumption; I agree: I would nevere use MC 15w40 ALONE in my car, not even in summer; However, I do think if the MC 5w30 shows any consumption, the MC 15w/40 would be a nice thing to add, to top off and to give the 5w30 a little visc.boost. By staying with the same brand(MC) I'm avoiding the danger of additive-clash, and I think it'll be ok to use sparingly...

heavy duty engine oil is what is used in automotive diesel engines. 15w/40 is kinda thick for N.D.winters .There are 10w30 and syn and group lll heavy duty oils which would be a better choice for winter temps. Heavy duty oils work great in gasoline engines when using the proper viscosity for your location. What is additive clash?
