Took delivery of a new Mazda6 GT today as they had a great 4th of July promo with nearly $5k in discounts. It was a very fresh car off the hauler made in May and had 4 miles on it so I knew it hadn't been driven.

I drove a different model with the Premium package for a while then decided I didn't need the extra stuff for $2k. Did a quick drive in my chosen car and noticed it rode differently, much stiffer. I chalked it up to being a newer car.

After getting home and cooling off for a couple hours(nap), I gave it the once over. Fluids fine, set all my preferences, took care of a couple scratches, then checked the tire pressure...

57 pounds of air in every tire! Either some idiot supplier in Japan or the PDI tech needs to be flogged. I corrected the pressure and reset TPMS then took it for a drive. What a difference. No longer jarring, just firm.

This isn't the first time I had an issue with tire pressure in a car from a dealer. The last 2 Accords I bought CPO had less than 40 pounds of air in the spare. I made sure to not it on the CSI questionnaire but nobody ever contacted me so they don't care.

Mazda always over inflates the tires when then are shipped from Japan to USA. But the dealer should have
corrected it once it got onto their lot. People on the Mazda Miata forum talk about this.

Congrats on the new mazder. I love mine. I didn't have issues with overinflated tires but I know my coolant was a little low and needed topping off. One of these days I'm gonna change the tranny fluid to redline so maybe that will be low too.

Great car! Congrats. Also, nice catch. At highway speeds that could have been disastrous.

Seeing it's above the max pressure allowed, I would be wary of tire damage.

America's Tire once severely under inflated new tires and incorrectly reset the TPMS. The OEM instructions said that tires could be damaged if driven under inflated.

So I asked, and got, new tires.

On new vehicles, you usually don't enjoy a warranty beyond one year on the tires. That's something to consider. At the very least, have it noted in the official service records.

I don't know of any vehicle manufacturer who doesn't over inflate tires. They are supposed to be reset in PDI, but that's one of the most common things neglected.

And don't worry about how much pressure was in the tires. They were only inflated that way for a few miles.

I'm not worried. I worked in the tire business for years and know that under inflation is the killer of tires. The car has 57 miles and the tires still have all their nubs. I'm glad I didn't nail a pothole and ding a wheel.

I'd be more concerned about the scratches that had to be taken care of on a new car. The over inflating of tires is barely worth talking about.

If your only problem was over inflated tires consider yourself lucky. I was lucky too, all I had to do was top up washer fluid. Some cars come off the carrier banged up or worse, and then they try and convince you to allow them to fix it.

This is common on some cars. Go to an 86/frs/brz, miata, Subaru forum and you will see tons of posts about new cars coming with like 60psi in the tires.
