Just got the oil changed at a local service place. I was going to do it myself, but time is short and I've got a big trip coming up. I looked at the receipt and noticed they had my 2012 Mazda3 Skyactiv listed as the Sport model, and used a Champ PH2835 filter, which Amazon says isn't compatible. Anyone know if Amazon is wrong, or do I need to go back and have them put a different filter on?

Not sure about the Champ number, but the OE number is PE01-14-302.
I would go back to the lube place that did the OC and ask tham to show you how they selected the filter. That should satisfy your concerns. If they can't show you why the fiter was selected, be prepared to tell them why it is incorrect. FWIW

PH2876 seems to be the correct part.
PH2835 shows for the non skyactiv engine, not sure if it matters but I would have it changed...

That's because "Sport" IS the vehicle's correct sub-model, Not "Skyactiv". Your Mazda 3 Sport happens to have a Skyactiv engine.

The main difference between the PE01 filter and the B6Y1 (and their respective aftermarket equivs) is that the latter has an ADBV, the PE01 does not.

I checked out that Champion Labs site and what I found MORE interesting is that there is no fuel filter to replace on the Skyactiv. Apparently, there is a fuel pump/filter module. Hopefully, the filter really is good for life. I suppose it's possible.

Mazda.com says all 3's have Skyactiv engines for all displacements. Wiki says the OP's car does have a Skyactiv engine.
And Mazda does actually call the car a "hatchback", which I was a bit surprised at. Still looks like a wagon to me.

Hello, When my sister bought a 2012 Mazda3i Touring with the Skyactiv engine I went alookin' for her filters. The filter had been changed by Mazda. Hastings and Wix didn't have a listing.
Now at least Wix does. 57002 is the Wix oil filter number for the new 1998cc Skyactiv engine.

Skyactiv does not use a generic filter. Last I checked, only Wix and Toyo-Roki made an oil filter that meets the specific skyactiv specs.
If the filter application guide lists engines other than the Skyactiv engines, it was not designed for the skyactiv engines.

Skyactiv G refers to gasoline engine. Skyactiv D is the diesel engine.
