Mazda enjoys its diverse lunatic fringe element and loyal enthusiast base.

Builds some nice machines...and makes decent money selling them.

Looking forward to the announcement.

Is it the platform for a new Spec Mazda series?

Is it a new sports coupe?

Will it be well engineered?

Will it be fun?

Answer to all questions is yes.

I totally agree with Miller. Also, Wankels just aren't as durable, efficient and torquey as a reciprocating engine. A Wankel with a hybrid / electric assist was rumored a few years ago. I would imagine such a setup would fill in the low end torque gap nicely.

The black outline of a car on the website looks much longer and thinner than the rx8. Much more like the rx7... Drool.
I really hope it is an inline 6 skyactiv variant, mated to a traditional 6 speed

How about a Nissan RB26 engine in an RX7.... My goodness

Good, because that will make tomorrow that much more shocking for you.

But what if they made the rotors wider, increasing the displacement, which brings in more torque, but decreased the rpm limit, which then increases the durability and longevity of the internals?

Would that get your attention?

They've been working on one of those, too.

It will be interesting to see what they unveil, won't it?

I hope it's small, light, RWD, naturally aspirated, and available with a straight-up three-pedal manual transmission. No need to worry about how good the chassis is, because it's Mazda.

If it ticks all of those boxes, I almost don't care what other boxes it ticks.

As an aside, since we're talking about Wankels: direct injection could go a long way, and no valves means no valve deposits!

Their Diesel engines for the US market are sadly still in limbo.

I wish Mazda would make a rwd Mazda3, that would be a fun car to thrash around on a daily basis! It would provide the old BMW driving experience that's gone from the market place.

Talk to my two friends who got rid of their RX8's after only about three years due to frequent shop visits. Plus, I can't get too excited about a little car that gets 18 mpg highway. Corvettes do better than that.

Miata fastback? hatchback? Mazdaspeed!

Rotary reliability is owner dependent. How about DEF for a high NOx gasser, dedicated oil sump for oil injection using cleaner burner 2-stroker type oil, more aluminium and less iron in that heavy 13b engine, direct injection or combination injection like D4-S, hybrid assist(starternator), low SAPs oil, a mandatory class on how to take care of the rotary in a nontypical US consumer way, E85 FFV?

Mazda diesel would work if VW did the emissions tuning. DEF is a must and costs. Mazda trying too hard to avoid DEF.

Best to leave the rotary engine in its grave. Resurrect it for hydrogen fuel.
