Mazda Canada 0w20 - Idemitsu or Petro Canada

Alright I have a question that, in all my searching, still leaves me looking for a definitive answer.

I bought a 2014 CX-5 GT about a month ago. Was debating on a 1000km first oil change, but ended up just doing my first one at 2600km. (I know I could have gone 8000km following SCH 2, but wanted to get the FF gunk out...this was my happy medium)...

Anyway, when I asked the service manager what type of oil they use he said it was "the same stuff they leave the factory with". I asked if it was the High Moly content stuff and he advised that it was...
When I got the oil changed, he showed me a bottle that didn't SAY "with molly" like the ones (US) I've seen in pics on the forums.

All my searching on BITOG and this forum lead to different answers...two in particular:

1. Mazda Canada uses the Idemitsu made oil, which is shipped from Indiana and bottled and packaged by Petro Canada, with a Mazda Label. (GF-5)
2. Mazda Canada uses Petro Canada MADE oil w/o Moly that is packaged with Mazda labels. This supposedly has a low viscosity.

Now I'm wondering if I should have left the FF in, because of the high moly. The only reason I changed it was because I was assured/believed it was the high visc/moly stuff and that it wouldn't have mattered. I'm thinking if it IS the Petro Can MADE (not distributed) stuff, then, having no moly, can't be GREAT for it being so early and low in KM's.

*I thought that the skyactiv engines required this moly stuff......

Obviously, they wouldn't be filling up the veh's with oil that wasn't good for it...I'm mostly concerned with ditching the high moly stuff (if I even did) so early.....

Any help/knowledge would be appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as the engine is 'broken in'
before it leaves the factory. The 2600KM would definitely 'break it in' if it wasn't done at the factory.
Many people will put Valvoline 0w20 or some other low/no moly oil into their Mazda's which will last longer than you'll care to own it.
As I stated in another post, an upstate Mazda dealer I recently visited is selling qts. of Brad Penn 0w20 full syn. at the parts counter. Most Mazda's will never see high moly Idemitsu made 0w20 again after leaving the showroom.

HAHA thanks for the reply...Seems there is definitely different schools of thought on "factory break in"...I am hoping this to be a 6 year car at least for me, so I'm just wanting to do things right. Again, maybe just paranoid, but I'm thinking I should have left the FF in...But would still like someone to chime in if they know what Mazda Canada "uses" for their brand...

Mazda Canada doesn't use the high moly Idemitsu oil, they use oil from Petro Canada with a much lower VI and less moly. You can order the high VI/moly Mazda oil online but it will be a hundred bucks with shipping.
I would go with TGMO that is widely available, has a high VI and decent add pack. The price is $5.99 a litre and a much better value in quality and price.

Caterham posted it is a standard production synthetic PetroCan oil labeled as Mazda oil. Not the US high moly oil. Given regular maintenace, you have a 10 - 15 year car, nevermind 6 year.

Is the FF the high moly stuff?
Is there no issue continuing now at 2600km for 8k with this "standard" stuff? Or would that be an issue with break in

You will be fine for breakin and going to 8,000 kms, and you are overthinking this.
Just my opinion of course.

I did notice today that it took considerably longer to warm up and the engine noise has definitely increased...I'm thinking, though, maybe the lack of moly might actually be beneficial for further break in....Or should I try adding some liquid moly to my fill? Anyone else have any advice or knowledge to share?

If you're not happy with the oil then next OCI or change early, go to a high vi oil like the TGMO, or go to a Honda or Acura dealership and get the synthetic 0w20 gf4 sm oil. This oil has a high vi of 197 and a very high moly count of 600+ ppm just like the Mazda high moly.
The TGMO is much cheaper at $5.99 than the Honda at $8.99, but don't think that translates into less quality.
Either or will give you back what's missing with the current oil fill.

Agincourt Mazda who services my company car uses Petro Canada bulk 0w20. I've seen the PC tanker truck pull up to the bays to fill the tanks and the service manager confirmed it. They sell Mazda oil by the litre but I'm not sure if it's the good high VI stuff or not
