Personally, I think that they are grossly overpriced cars.

Obviously you never drove one or owned one.
Mazdas are some of the best priced vehicles on the road today, Mazda engineers are among the most respected in the world, holding patents that other companies dream of.

The biggest in this decade is the SkyActive Engine, almost standard on all their cars now and comes on Mazda 3s too.
The engines are the highest compression mass produced engines in the WORLD and runs on regular gas. Almost anyone who has owned a Mazda since 2012 will most likley have rave or better reviews then any other vehicle owner.

and for those who care, value wise, almost always at the top of Consumer Reports list.

and correct ... 3000 vehicles are nothing, 300,000 then you would have something to talk about. Wheels falling off make good headlines and web clicks.

From 1980 to 2007, I owned all brand new Toyotas. Never had a single out-of-ordinary problem and was very pleased. While shopping in 2007 for a new car, I stopped-in at a Mazda dealer and came out with a Mazda 6. It was my daily driver (very fun to drive) for several years. To date, the only problem it had was an O2 sensor at 110,000 miles. Car performs wonderfully, gets fantastic economy. It's a 5sp manual, my wife loves it. You would not be able to pry it away from her under any circumstances. I bought another Mazda6 for myself in 2009 and it was a great car for 56,000 miles until it was traded to get a utility pickup truck. Loved the car while I had it. Again, fun to drive and totally reliable for daily driving.

I just bought a 2018 Mazda3 Hatchback 2.5L. Has 10k miles now. Flawless performance so far and is by far the most fun daily-driver I've ever owned. Outstanding mix of performance and fuel economy.

IMO, Mazda is doing a great job in the small car and CUV market. The skyactive platform is doing very well.

Yes, early Mazdas had reliability and rust issues -big time. In the 90's they started a steady path of improvement. Right now, in the small car/CUV market, I think they're king of the hill in terms of affordable daily drivers. Will Mazda continue this path forever? Who knows! What's important is that the Mazdas of the last 8-9 years are kicking butt!

Of course though, others just love to repeat and recycle 25 year old reputation information on the Internet. -And that seems to be more important than first-hand knowledge from someone with 12 years of totally trouble free Mazda ownership spanning 3 vehicles.

Ummmm, based on internet pricing I have seen, nope! Mazda3 is really the modern equivalent to my 1995 Escort, which it is based on. For cars made in Mexico, IMO very expensive for what you get. Not as good as Toyota, Ford, and probably Honda.

The only thing that Mazda does that I like is their lack of CVT or dual clutch "automatic" transmissions.

True nuggets of wisdom right there. Yes, Mazda 3 is really an Escort in modern skin, and they managed to fool everyone, almost. Good thing they didn't fool you.🤯

The 2019 Mazda3 is a great car for the money, unfortunately it's very hard to find them with 6 speed manual transmission. G Vectoring technology does make a Mazda3 enjoyable to zoom zoom....

Very curious to see real world SkyActiv X engine fuel economy next year.

I think he confused. He seems to be talking about Toyota 2AZ-FE engines using oil, but keeps saying Mazda.

My 2012 2.5L MZR is using a lot less oil than the 2AZ-FE we retired two years ago.

To be fair, my Mazda FS engine always wanted to use oil, but I don't think it used as much as the same vintage Toyota 2AZ-FE.

Mazdas are probably more sensitive to care and maintenance relative to Toyotas but I don't think they are inherently unreliable.

And I've owned (and still own) both Mazdas and Toyotas.

Before or after Ford's DCT fiasco?

Probably not as 'reliable' as toyota or honda in the long run, but the same can be said for just about any car manufacture without factoring in the owner's maintenance. They sure as [censored] look and drive a lot better than any of Toyota's or Honda's offerings though (Si and CTR excluded.)

Possibly so far, but I expect them to use their Mexican factory for something.

My cataloging for Mazda lists both Mexico and US made models. I haven't seen any come through yet. On the prior models there was a mix of both, I never kept track of what ones needed more work.

There are Mazda3's that were made in USA? Check your sources!

Sorry I mis-typed, was busy at work. Mexico and Japan, much apologies.

I know they built Mazda cars in the US before, at Flat Rock with Ford.

I believe they are planning to build some using a Toyota plant, but don't know if they are in production yet.

A quick look at VINs of new Mazda 3 cars for sale near me has 3 and J VINs, which I believe means Mexico and Japan.

I think US Vins start with 1, 4 or 5, while Mexico built cars start with 3 and Japanese built cars start with J.

I didn't see any US VIN Mazda3 offerings in the quick sample I took.

Ya I mis-typed on the USA part. J is Japan and 3 is Mexico.
