I've been using a synthetic chamois, the Absorber, for well over a decade now. Seemed to be the latest/greatest thing at the time. I've seen detailers on YT use these new towels and wondered if it was a gimmick. My neighbor is a detailer as uses them, so I asked. He said they work great and could get me one through his job. I used it today and...it works! It's crazy how much better it is. I generally use a blower to push a lot of the water off ahead of time. Not doing that anymore as the towel works better when it gets damp. I blew off too much and had to put water INTO the towel to make it work better! No constant wringing...didn't even do it once! No going over the car twice to get the streaks because there was a little too much water in the chamois. Next time will go much more quickly with less effort since I now know a better way. The one he got me is the Purple Duo Twisted one, 24"x36", $35 on A. I give it two thumbs up!

Will it contribute to scratches or marring?
I seriously doubt it. It is very soft. Softer than anything I've ever used to dry off a vehicle. I don't think my neighbor would use or recommend it. He does some high end cars every once and a while.

I also recently switched from The Absorber to a big drying towel. I didn't think I needed anything new since the Absorber did the job and did soak up water but WOW lol... I wish I got one sooner. I can dry the car super fast which was kind of a chore to do and my least favorite part of a handwash.

For me, it's this or nothing. I've got a whole range of sizes and types from the Rag Company and I love every one of them.

Update: Just used it for the second time yesterday and didn't blow off all the water ahead of time. That dried the car too quickly and started leaving water spots. Just drove the car into the shade after the rinse and started drying. Still: WOW! I can dry the car in ~75% less time and it leaves everything streak free.

Any type of this towel would be good, not just Maxshine as others have pointed out with their favorite go-to towel. I thought they might be a gimmick, but they really do work! My faux-chamois is officially downgraded to wheel and engine wiping.
