This has not been the case in my experience. I have run a few OCIs of MaxLife 5W-20 (the NextGen variety, for what it's worth) in our 2008 Honda CR-V, with fewer than 70,000 miles, and I now have Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 in it and there are absolutely no leaks. Granted, I didn't run the MaxLife for 100,000 miles and then switch to something else, but in my limited experience, I have not had any leaks when switching back off it.

This makes sense to me but I suppose staying in-brand (e.g. Mobil, SOPUS) would be pretty safe.

Separately, my MaxLife-cured leak has proven to be illusory. While fine on shorter trips, the leak reappears after a couple hours on the Interstate. As this is when the oil may be at its hottest, I'm wondering if a 5w30 would leak noticeably less than the 5w20 in the car now.
