So if you don't want to run an High Mileage version of Valvoline oil you are not running their top tier product according to Valvoline (Or at least their marketing of it).

Anytime an oil contains things that correct problem, that means the base oil must be more robust to counter the more robust High Mileage add-pack, so lubricity does not wane.

It does not mean that an oil package like regular Synpower is an inferior product. It's not inferior if/when those added robust things in that High Mileage add-pack are not needed. So if the stronger add-pack isn't needed, then the more robust base oil of High Mileage synthetic isn't needed either.

Agreed! I would chalk this up as more marketing hype and Valvoline who has a strong presence in the High Mileage oils trying to capitalize on that.

I think a lot of people don't consider "the point of diminishing returns" when it comes to oil. You can strive and strive to find the best but are you really gaining anything in the long run?

Well one thing I know is dads contacts with his old working buddies at Valvoline and their working knowledge as well as their educational back rounds tells me they have the knowledge and the training not just opinions. Also the fact they actually use the products themselves tells me something. I choose to take their knowledge and education over others opinions. But that is my choice.

I picked up a few quarts of Valvoline MaxLife SynPower 0w20 for $2 each at the AZ CLEARANCE. I've never ran High Mileage oils because my vehicles typically use no oil.

Most likely I will add 1 quart of this MLSP 0w20 to an OCI of regular Synpower (or Napa Syn 0w20) to use it up and possibly even help strengthen the resultant mix...Thoughts?

PS: I don't want to use full strength High Mileage oil because I'm concerned of any adverse affects when going back to regular oils.

You don't own a vehicle that uses 0w-20 or 5w-20?
If not, I would not have purchased it.

You could save it until November or December and mix it-in / use it for a full winter OCI run. Are you in mid/upper New York, where it's colder than NYC?

One thing about the High Mileage brands is they don;t offer any benefit unless using your entire crankcase filled with High Mileage oil.

Sorry for the late reply but I'm away from home for a few weeks and don't always have internet access. I DO have vehicles that use 5w20 (Fords, Hyundai and a Toyota which was back spec'd) so the 0w20 ML Syn. was a good purchase...I will most likely use it (1 qt. at a time) mixed with regular Valvoline syn. 0w20 (or the similar Napa syn. 0w20) because I feel I don't need a High Mileage oil.

PS: I'm only 75 miles north of NYC but it can get pretty cold....though not as cold as far north NYS..
