...and ONLY the 5-30.

Saw it at Wal-Mart this morning.

Not the 5-20 or 10-30. The Label on 5-20 & 5-30 SN say "Synthetic Blend", the 5-30 does not!

Odd, huh? Anyone hear why?

The 'new' ML labels don't tout the fact that it is a 'syn blend'....but the oil still IS a blend...it's just not something they are pushing....

how did you find this out?

Go get the remaining SM maxlife syn blend on close out at wally's for $13.50/ 5 qts ! Your stash is down--

A blend of WHAT? All Multi-grade motor oils are a blend. Is this oil still, as advertised in the past, synthetic blend or an all conventional blend? Maybe it is not a synthetic blend...and never was one....and time caught up with them on the GF-5 rating.

a few keystrokes and a quick trip to the valvoline website gives the following:

#

Has MaxLife always been a synthetic blend?

MaxLife Synthetic Blend motor oil is actually the same product as regular MaxLife. MaxLife has always been a synthetic blend oil; we just now label the product that way. It is the same oil as before. As long as you have used MaxLife, you have used synthetic blended oil.

Yeah just interesting since they do not list it under synthetic blend category anymore on the website. Durablend is there by itself.

They still have DuraBlend. It seems they are trying to avoid confusion of having two blends...MaxLife the high mileage oil, and leaving DuraBlend as the only labeled blend.

Makes sense...I guess LOL

the new SN maxlife is not resource conserving and is still a synthetic blend. This is what valvoline says

Thank you for your question. All products that were updated with the new ILSAC GF-5 specifications are still the same products, such as base oils, additives, etc., there have only been some alterations in the additives to help with deposit control and fuel economy. The original MaxLife products you are accustomed to using, will still perform perfectly fine and supercede the older GF-4 specifications.

Synthetic Blend is a meaningless marketing term. I imagine that Valvoline dropped it from the Maxlife label in order to improve the perceived differentiation between Maxlife and Durablend.

I will say it again: Synthetic Blend is a marketing term which tells you nothing about the oils goodness or badness compared to competing oils.
