This product was recommended by my local mechanic. He recommended it for high mileage cars.
The synthetic blend allow you to add regular oil in an emergency (which you could not do if you use fully synthetic). The price at walmart was 10-15 dollars lower that at other stores (AutoZone, PEP boys, etc).

Yes, the first place I go in an "oil emergency" is Walmart.

Are you kidding ?

You can top off any type (Syn or Dino or Blend) with any other type (Syn or Dino or Blend).

This from the same people who still think you cant use synthetics and go back to conventional...and don't want to use modern SN rated oils that are "synthetic blend" because that's a big NO NO.And Pennzoil is the biggest sludger oil ever, and that 0w20..etc oils are like water just waiting to destroy a new (under warranty) engine....lol

I echo that. I am setting myself up to be flamed, but my mechanic is a literal savant. I've never seen someone Dx things so quickly, that others have thoroughly missed.

He knows the basics of oil, but has mentioned several times the 'Pennzoil Fiasco' of yesteryear. He will not touch it.

Just goes to show, I guess....

To be fair its unclear how much of the review was from the mechanic and how much from the reviewer. Walmart would not be my first place to look for a review of almost anything.

i like pennzoil but i have heard people mention sludge when talking about pennzoil i have one rebuilder that used to warn people at the engine shop he worked at last for 27 years that if they use pennzoil the warranty will be void because it will sludge up and seize. He is instructed not to say that here but he really believes that. He is a great engine man but has to learn about oil! He uses valvoline 10w30 in all his stuff including his lawn mower and snow blower

There is no reason you cannot add conventional to synthetic in an "oil emergency" or to top off. It merely becomes a "blend" and loses any extended oil life of the full synthetic. A blend is synthetic and conventional mixed.

That's funny because the only oil I ever had break down on me was Valvoline. I won't touch it because of that. Yes, it was over 25 years ago, but with all the oil choices out there, I have no reason to try Valvoline again.

My Focus has Valvoline max life in it and so far I am happy with it. It has used less oil, mileage is up, and the engine feels like it even has a little more power. And for those who care about varnish, I noticed the varnish on the dip stick is gone, so I looked in the oil cap and what little of the engine I can see looks a lot cleaner. That said the upper end of the engine is a bit louder. After 4000 miles it is not any louder though and I don't consider the noise unusual or excessive or anything like that. Just more noticeable.
