I recently had some transmission work done on my Ranger, which requires Mercon V. The shop filled it with Maxlife, which is what they use in just about everything. I recall that Valvoline used to claim that Maxlife is officially licensed for Mercon V; I'm not sure if that's still true. Their website or product data sheet don't mention it, and it's not listed as even "suitable for" Mercon V on the bottle.

I don't believe its licensed but Valvoline claims it can be used where Mercon V is specified. I would use it with confidence, its good stuff.

My Ford dealer only uses Maxlife ATF. Its in both of my Fords. One has 177k and shifts like new.
Valvoline claim Maxlife suitable for Mercon V application, Maxlife ATF is not licensed for Mercon. Valvoline's another ATF "Valvoline Mercon V" is indeed licensed.
