I just replace the drain plug on my 2000 silverado z71 4L60E transmission, and replace it with 4 fresh quart max life. in few week I want drop pan and filter change. I want add lubeguard, I use it in the past and I really like it, its really work. Between red and platium, which one should I use ? I read somewhere platium is more for high mile transmission.

and I remember some one post a chart to show how many time to drain/fill to get total 100% fresh fluid, I know some will say pull the cooler line, but Im not comptible pulling it. Since I have drain plug on my transission, I just drain it out.

The torque converter holds a great deal of fluid there is no real way to get it all out.Back in the day GM full time 4by4 trucks where very hard on transmissions. The thing used to be to drill and tap a plug in the converter to get as much out as possible.I imagine if you changed it 3 times it would be 95% gone just a guess though.

I would do three drain and refills - after that you won't be getting much for your money. I don't know much about lubeguard, but have heard good things about it. Some swear by it. I would put it in on your last fill.

If you haven't changed the transmission filter do that the next time you drain it. It's easy and cheap.

Good luck!

Yes thanks for tips, im plan on add LG after last fill. Here my plan,
1: in a few week imma drop pan and filter change add new fluid

2: next oil change 3k or 5 month ( that how my OCI is

) I will take off plug and drain, add new fluid + lube guard

Im stick with 3 drain like you guy recomement , cause I just did drain and fill yesterday.

Why not do a cooling line flush. Its pretty easy and will be cheaper than multiple drain & fills and will get say 95%-98% the first time.

The drain & fills are really a poor way to do a fluid exchange.

They are a decent way to do a "refresh" of some of the fluid.

I think you want Lubegard Red. Platinum is more for boosting "universal" or unknown fluids to higher specs, if you're using the proper fluids just add Red.

Drain and fill it three times. Depending on transmission capacity you'll end up with around 75-90% new fluid.

Use lubegard red, as this vehicle was specified to use Dexron III and not a "highly friction modified" ATF.

Maxlife is some pretty good stuff on its own and may very well not need the additional lubegard.

On a lot of Ford transmissions, the following DIY method will exchange most fluid. First disconnect the transmission cooler line, wherever it is. Start the engine and drain the gushing fluid into a bucket. Turn off the engine once the flow stops for good. Now drop the pan, change the filter, and refill. Some people, for a good measure, after refilling let the engine run again to have additional 2-3 quarts come out of the cooler line to make sure all of the old stuff got flushed, then top off the fluid.
