Hey Everyone,

I use the Hyundai OE oil filter on my 2013 Sonata 2.0T but have been using the Purolator Classic L14459 on my Moms 2011 GLS non-turbo. I've been changing the oil every 3k miles conventional but plan on switching to Pennzoil Platinum / Pennzoil Ultra. Since her driving style falls under the non-severe category the oil should be fine for 5/6k miles. Would it be safe keeping a Purolator that long?

-Thanks

If I were you I would not use a classic past 5K miles, although many have. Its nothing I would do to my personal vehicle.

I agree. The "base-model" filters are designed with shorter dino intervals in mind, not extended syn drains. 5,000 would be the max for my comfort level with any regular filter.

Unless her engine is horribly sludged, 5-6k should be a piece of cake for a Classic, or just about any properly made filter.

I would without even thinking about it. I've cut open a few dozen after 5000 and 7500 miles with no reason to think they couldn't do double that mileage.

Q: How often should I change my oil filter?
A: The mileage at which to change oil and filters really depends on factors like the driving habits, mileage on the vehicle, and the manufacturer’s recommendation for changing your engine oil and filters. Purolator recommends you change your oil and oil filter every 3,000 miles or as specified by your vehicle’s manufacturer.

Purolator FAQ

I'd stick with the owner's manual guidance for filter change interval with the Puro Classic. Ford specs 10K mile intervals with the ordinary FL910S, GM specs OLM indicated changes with the PF48 (which can get well past 8K miles in my app), and there is nothing particularly fancy about those filters. There is no reason to not believe that the Puro Classic should be good for at least a full recommended service interval.

Since the 2005 Honda Accord 2.4 I had recommended 20K mile filter changes (really) I would no doubt have any problem running that filter for a long time.

I run the Purolator Classic cartridge filter in my Corolla for 7500 miles using Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 (I just switched to the Quaker State Ultimate Durability) and the used oil analysis have come back fine.

I've ran mine for 2 5k OCI's. (On 2 vehicles at the same time, so 2 filters, 4 OCIs, 10k miles each filter, 20k miles total)

I cut them open and the pleats waved a little, but otherwise performed just fine.

I run Motorcraft filters now (for the same price at walmart) and they are a superior filter. The pleats do not wave, plus they have a silicone ADBV.

I've gone 11,000 miles on a PC in a Cavalier. It looked fine, I wouldn't hesitate to go 20k personally. Assuming you have a clean non-sludged engine.

Thanks everyone for the good info, the engine only has 17k on it.

I change the oil pretty religiously every 3k,I'm assuming it's pretty clean given the low mileage.

Use it for a 6k OCI with confidence. Lots of positive feedback in the oil filter section on the Puro Classic.

After experiencing start up knock with a 26K mi 4.6 Ford, I tossed the remaining Classic I had in the trash... I've never had a issue with Pure One or Motorcraft on these engines...

No I don't have a clue how this info pertains to a Hunny, but I won't buy one now for any engine...

I have had repeated excellent service from Puro Classics. Have used them out to 10k miles with no issues whatsoever. 6k miles is a walk in the park. Some of my used oil analysis history has been previously linked in this thread.

Data and facts show it's safe to do. Rhetoric and mythology claim otherwise.

Choose as you see fit.

I used PC for 10 K miles on Sunfire in my signature and finally changed it with WIX before winter . I think 2 oil changes per filter is doable.

hmm this is what ive been wondering past hour, especially since i have a pure 1 on my 98 toyota corolla. wondering about the calssic* i change my oil every 3 months. Today, i cut open a bosch distnace plus, and it loked new inside. 1,300 miles in 3 months. what a waste..but hey i learned..i could have used it for the year!
the purolator classics.. time vs mileage* since i do 3 months and 1,300 mile changes, (lots of stop n go traffic) oil is gooey thick n black. would it be ok, to run a reg purolator for 6 months? 9 months? afull year? never buying high end synthetics agian, unless i do a year*

lol cheesepuffs* when i say gooey* i didnt mean actually gooey* but it does look like it wants to sludge. Last one, was supertech 10w30. i also noticd* under the fill cap ontop of valvecover..past year, their was burned oil crusted? hardened? all over the metal, peeking into the VERY limited pour hole. That was my father driving it, and going too jiffy lube and oil star places. My point??? i noticed this year..running peak 10w30 synthetic, in summer, at oil change september, the crusted areas undr the cap looked cleaner. Used supertech 10w30, dino, emtpied few days ago...and noticed it was much luch cleaner under the fill cap! was really impressed I could actually see now, where thir was crust, metal* that made me really happy.. Really only started driving the car this year, after it hwas sitting in driveway for 5+years. changed air filter ( rodent or something was making a nest in the air filter housing) and hornets had made a nest in it. Last year, former romate was helpig me get it ready to drive again, june time got hot..started the car, and all the sudden, hornets came out from under the drivers side fender area. I also discovered they came in through the vents* as 3 of them were crawling on me, on my left hand, feeling its legs. they were nasty little pets...we sprayed hornet spray, water form hose..they kept coming back, and back..wanted the corolla form themselves lol.
SO had gotten a dealer toyota denso air filter prob only but 3,200 miles on it at most. Few months ago, got a pure 1 air filter for it. so i do have a better new air filter in it. stop n go, constant red lights, stop signs, idiots who cant drive..its really congested here. Im near I 95, exit 9, and to exit 5 rarely..why? 8-9 mile drive one way to work, and back. the traffic. this past year, engineers were out closing 2 lanes, leaving one open..IMPOSSIBLE to get ahead..so traveling along route 1, which runas along and under I95 to greenwich area, where i work, traffic espcially t rush hour, and fridays spills out onto the streets. oil was a nice golden yellow...3 months and 1,200 miles later...soot tar black colored. Got about 80-85% of a empty milk gllon container full of the used oil..dropped it off at local recycling center. its the stop n go traffic...the oil looked really really sad : ( lol
plus i can tell when its time for a change. the engine may not always want too start first key turn...had this same prob with my old 95 neon. Put new oil filter, and oil* frist key stroke, engine would start n run smooth. i can tell by listening too the engine, in the toyota, it wants the old out, and new oil in. feel it rather*
