MarvelMysteryOil as a DieselFuelAdditive?

I've done some searching in this forum and in all the threads I found people who had used MMO as a Diesel Fuel Additive seemed to like it. On the can it claims:

Is there anyone that has used MMO as a Diesel Fuel Additive and had a bad experience?

We own two 04 TDIs and have used MMO in both since new with good results, but some TDIclub members say MMO has a high ash content which will result in increased wear.

I have not been able to find any data regarding MMO's ash content. Do any of you know the ash content of MMO in ppm?

I think of MMO as inexpensive insurance for our TDI's fuel. I don't want to stop using MMO due to unsubstantiated claims. But, if there's real data that indicates MMO used as a Diesel Fuel Additive does not function as claimed, please post the details to this thread.

I don't own a diesel ..but I use it regularly in my home heating oil

My stack stays clean ..in spite of not being serviced every year.

This is admittedly a different environment with the use of #2 fuel oil. I use 1 quart/250 gallons.

I've also added a quart along with two quarts of ATF in my 20 gallon tank of my 3.0 Caravan just to prove that the stuff fouls NOTHING. Now with that mixture it did have a vapor trail until it got cut enough with subsequent fuel adds ..but it has had the same plugs in for over a year and starts instantly ..no cranking ..it just starts with a bump of the key.

What this means in a diesel? I dunno

Yes ..but is the label as neat?

LCD ..what's your treat rate for diesel? I don't have my MMO bottle in front of me ...but you may be on the cheaper side then using MMO at their treat rate.

..and btw....

..I wonder if FP would do anything in a furnace/boiler environment????

Marvel Mystery Oil is sulfur free, ashless and registered with the EPA as diesel fuel additive.

Are you looking for someone to talk you out of using MMO? I won't do that...

All I'll say is that I feel Power Service Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost is a much better diesel fuel additive than MMO.

I've tried both MMO and FP in a diesel cushman. I like the FP slightly better. It seems to burn more clean and has a more lively feel.

No. I just want to be sure I'm not harming our TDIs.

MMO is so inexpensive that I use it in addition to Stanadyne Performance Formula, FPPF Total Power or Power Service DK or DFS as extra insurance and wear protection.

We're trying to maintain our TDIs so they'll last beyond 500k.

There is absolutely no need for the MMO...I would discontinue use of this product as a diesel fuel additive given there are others out there that perform better. I don't see any additional benefits that will increase engine longevity vs. using the two products I mention below:

Use Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost in the spring, summer, and fall.

Use Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost in the winter.

You may be right, but you might not be. We plan to drive our TDIs for 500k+, and we will use MMO the whole time in addition to at least one other additive. We'll do used oil analysis and track fuel economy the entire time. In time we'll know for sure - but until then, unless someone else has done a study...
