Cleaning up after an "intense" MMO experiment...

I love MMO for recreational fuel additive usage.

When I just get the uncontrollable urge to use some kind of additive, there's always MMO, safe and friendly, and cheap, too.

Anyway, after my latest experiment with MMO, I now know the point at which the results of the MMO cleaning in the fuel must be cleaned up, itself.

For my '83 F250 with a 460, the limit is apparently 1/2 gallon MMO mixed with 18.5 gallons of gasoline. At that level, fuel economy REALLY dropped, a rough idle developed and hard cold starting ensued.

So, I took a 20oz. container of Techron and a bottle of Regane, and dumped them into one of the tanks (19 gallon capacity per tank) and took it for a fast, 75 mph drive on I5 for about 20 miles.

As soon as I pulled off the freeway and sat at a red light, I noticed that the idle was smoother than ever, and I mean ever. The next morning, it started immediately, and now it is running the best it ever has, since I've owned it.

Smooth, responsive and even more powerful... I still have to check the mileage, but I had just broken into the 10's for the first time, right before the MMO experiment.

So, it seems as though overdosing it severely with MMO, and then following it up with an overdose of Techron/Regane has really done the trick.

Life without pesky sensors, computers, catalytic converters and such is so forgiving!

Hum, I thought the idea was to overdose with a strong FIC first to clean and then use MMO in low quantity for lubrication and for preventing carbon. Not that I really got anything out of MMO either way, other than slightly reduced mileage.

"Slightly" reduced mileage... that's a symptom of using too little MMO! You've got to use at least a quart in 15-20 gallons in order to have a severe reduction in mileage.

C'mon, guys! If you really want MMO to make a measurable difference, you've got to use a LOT of it.

Then, to have a measurable improvement in mileage after using the MMO, you OD on polyether amines!

Let's get this right, okay?

You misunderstood. It's hard to clean carbon when you don't have much, hence the lack of effect. I just wanted to see how my engine would react. Half a quart in 16 gallons, down to approx 5-6 gallons, back to full, remaining half-quart went in.

The engine burned it, when it was burned by the engine, when it entered the combustion chambers, it was burned, after leaving the gasoline tank along with the gasoline and being burned, which it was through the process of being combusted.

I really am curious what type of STUFF will trickle down into the oil pan afterwards.

I use FP in all our autos, but I know my father and grandfather used to use MMO with no ill effects for many many yrs... In all the Farm Equiptment and Trucks. Most of those trucks and Tractors are still in running order still today.{span of 30 yrs}...with never a rebuild.
