Well, what does anyone think about this gasoline. Is it better than the old Marathon gasoline? Is STP fuel additive any good? Or, is it just marketing ________?
- We just had a thread on this subject within the last 2 weeks.
The gasoline additives are supplied by Afton Chemical (old Ethyl Corporation) in a three way agreement to use the STP brand in conjunction with the Marathon gasoline program.
The gasoline additives are an Afton product and I doubt that it is available in any of the STP branded bottles of fuel system cleaners at your local Wal-Mart!
If it is true that Marathon gasoline now contains STP fuel system cleaner that would be just some kind of grimmick. Because all gasolines are supposed to contain detergents and why would they want to use a fuel system cleaner that was probably not among the best?
Thats my fear to. Likely they made the cheapest additive to buy in bulk, and they figured they might as well sell it to a big name. That way later they can pull a "our formula is used even by STP!" type gimmick. Lowest bidder in short.
Only gas with good additive IMO is the stuff with techron in it, and even that the amounts are tiny and MAYBE only good in constant use.
I buy Sunoco gas and have never had a problem from them. I use cleaners monthly or so as an insurance policy basically. I made a mistake a week or so ago and fueled at a Citgo....oh boy did the car run lousy for that next week. Engine was rougher in idle and driving, idle became erratic, and mileage wasnt good.
I think the strategy of buying good gas, and running your own adds is the best way.
