My 2000 Sebring convertible does not have a MAF sensor. It does have a MAP sensor. Does the MAP take the place of a MAF? Does the MAP sensor need to be cleaned like a MAF sensor?

What happens is that while the MAF as getting a constant reading, EGR opening will cause the MAP reading to change. This is how some GM engines regulate and monitor EGR flow.

Also, MAF problems can be easy to diagnose on those engines. If the engine runs bad, and runs good the moment the MAF is unplugged, it shows that the MAF is giving false readings to the PCM.

MAF and MAP are just different ways to measure airflow. MAF uses a formula with two wires to measure the amount of airflow. MAP uses a formula based on pressure and some other sensors, like the intake air temp sensor, and the o2 sensor. Just different ways to skin a cat. Technically, the MAF is more accurate in its ability to accurately measure air, but is another link in the chain. Performance cars seem to have them, but when the high performance cars get really moded, people move to the MAP system to allow more air intake.
