Man invents oil filter prefill tool

I've done all of the oil changes on all of my cars over the past fifty years or so.
I can count the number of times I've prefilled an oil filter using no fingers on either hand.
A solution in search of a problem it seems.
^this
I tried to prefill a filter exactly one time and made a mess trying to install it at a 45 degree angle. Obviously I filled it too full. Regardless, I never had an engine oil failure in all these years of installing dry filters. Of course, I only drove them to around 300k so maybe the benefit of prefilled filters happens after 301k(???)

Here is the reality, millions of cars get oil changes done at quick lubes like Walmart, JiffyLube, etc (unfortunately) but yet millions of these cars from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc reach well over 200,000 miles.

You know what all of these millions of cars done at quick lubes have in common? the oil filters are not pre-filled.

Also all of the used oil analysis with wear metals holding steady of which probably the majority of them did not pre-fill the filters is also more proof that pre-filling is pointless.

His system fills the filter plumb full and makes a mess. If you have a filter that's horizontal or vertical mounted it would make a huge mess if the filter was plumb full. That's why doing it by hand is better because you can control the pre-fill amount based on the mounting angle of the filter. I've pre-filled filters mounted at all angles, even vertical with base down where you just put enough in the filter to soak the media and still stay in the filter when you quickly screw the filter on with the base down.

Well the only benefit of pre-filling a horizontal oil filter is to pre-wet the media, beyond that the mess starts. Far better to use the clear flood mode of pedal to floor before cranking to build oil pressure before starting.
I use the "wet the media" as an excuse to pour some oil into the Pilot's new filter so I have some "fresh" oil which to slather on the gasket instead of dipping back into the drain pan or seeing if I can get a drop or two from the drain hole... because I didn't remember earlier.

I have yet to find a clear flood method on my 2025 Pilot. I have a scan tool which I could disable the fuel pump, but I'm not comfortable enough with it yet to go to that extreme. I'd probably pull the fuse to the fuel pump, first.

If anybody knows of a clear-flood method for the Pilot, please let me know. Thanks.

This channel always popping up in my feed goes to show the low bar for YT. Watched a few of his oil analysis videos before & couldn't finish them. I'm no stranger to cussing but I don't do it in front of my kids or on any of my YT videos. This reminds me of some products that may sell well for a short time paying all the wrong people but then sputter out after folks realize they look silly using it. 😄

He’s a Ford dealership mechanic.

His videos are OK.

Seems like a decent guy trying to make a living.
Been awhile since I caught up with anything he is doing until this thread. Last I knew, he was the used car mechanic at a VW dealership after a failed partnership/ownership at a indy shop in the Chicago area. Prior to that and when he started the channel, was a Ford dealership tech.

This is just my 2 cent opinion, but I also think he means well, just that the way he structures his channel and the topics he chooses in just not like other Youtube automotive channels. It really is not a nuts and bolts channel like SMA or FordTechMakuloco which neither of those channels get in the weeds of technical oil discussion or offer quasi political opinions.

He strikes me as the average dealership tech that is usually out of their depth thinking their wrench turning makes them technical experts on the properties of subjects they really have no training or self study in with most of his followers the leveled average of his I.Q. for which he pays too much attention to in influencing his channel and topics he discusses.

Think I'll invent an ABDV "blow test" tool. 😄
There's some BITOGers who will buy it. :ROFLMAO:

The same ones who think you have to prefill oil filters.
Anyone have an owner's manual or maintenance manual where the manufacturer says you have to prefill the oil filter on your mass produced vehicle?
I know, Joe's SUV is special, not like everyone else's, and the manufacturer wants the engine to wear out the day after warranty ends so you'll buy a new car. :alien:

It be nicer if it was painted with dark gray or bronze hammer paint and a buffed stainless hose clamp. I hope it would come in a storage heavy duty zip-lock bag w/ slider lug, and a white microfiber in it.

There is already an invention for this.It is called a plastic funnel. As has been said, what debris is going to get in a filter out of a new container of oil?

Or a steady hand pouring right from the bottle/jug. I'm not worried about new oil in bottle or jugs being "dirty". Bulk oil at say a dealership or quick lube change place might more apt to be contaminated than sealed bottles/jugs from the factory.
