Malwarebytes 2.0?

I wouldn't mind it being a bit slow if the scan is thorough.
On the other hand, if the scan is not thorough but only fast, that's a negative for me.
I hope version 2.0 offers best of both worlds.

I don't think Malwarebytes is going to compromise their product as they continually try to improve it. The anti-virus/malware software world is very competitive, and the products that don't get better with time will die off.

Opened the link and it shows the price as $39.99 ... no sign of the $14.99 deal. Does that happen when you use the promo code?

I'm assuming when it says "Pro Lifetime" that mean this has the lifetime license? ... no details in the fine print.

And purchase from Newegg looks like they actually send you a box with the CD disk? It think I'd like to have that verses a download.

Is it because the scanning engine is faster or because it's not as thorough (it skips some files)?

The scans are longer should be, because 2.0 has a better scanning engine, scans more type files more in depth vs. 1.75 and rootkits if enabled.

Just ordered this deal.

For others interested, you have to go to the checkout and enter the promo code, and choose free shipping, then the cost will update to $14.99 to your door. Didn't have sales tax in my case, so this is an awesome deal for Malwarebytes Pro with a lifetime license.

So does the Pro version of Malwarebytes also contain their "Anti-Exploit" and "Anti-Rootkit" functions? In other words, if I use Malwarebytes Pro, do I need any other supplemental Anti-Virus/Malware software?

I would still be running an Antivirus too.

I will stick with the free version as now that I am using Linux the only times I really use malwarebytes is when I'm cleaning up a pc for someone.

If you run the full-blow Malwarebytes then you would get the real-time virus/malware/etc protection too.

So do most of the majors though as part of their antivirus products.

All this is is broadened malware protection. You also should have a good anti-virus program on your computer. Read that website information I attached, after you replied.

I will stick to the free Malwarebytes. I am not worried about only checking for malware infestation once a week. I don't need a service that runs all the time. I run Malwarebytes, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware once a week. I run CCleaner once a week too. Then I run a ESET NOd32 scan once a week. I do one every day during the week... Mon-Fri.

Everything but ESET only runs for about one hour per week..... that's it. Only ESET is in my startup/Task Manager.

LOL! Dude, relax, I'm not sure what you think I was saying but my point was that Rootkit detection was part of products like NOD32, nothing more. I don't need to read any techrepublic links, I maintain hundreds of computers as part of my day job and have experience with basically all of the major antivirus/antimalware/antirootkit/antiRosieODonnel products out there

When you have end users to be worried about a product that is lightweight and runs in the background (like NOD32 EndPoint) can be extremely valuable. It looks like we are in agreement on that point.

So let me get this straight. Malwarebytes needs to be used in conjunction with separate anti-virus software running real-time? From this video on Malwarebytes website, that seems to be the case.

If so, then my plan is to get rid of Microsoft Security Essentials and use the real-time Malwarebytes Pro (just bought Pro w/lifetime license for $15) along with a good free anti-virus program like AVG or Avast.

Will that be a good setup? Overkill, what's your take on that plan?

ZeeOSix:

While I am generally a fan of MWB, I don't think I'd ever buy a subscription to their product.

In my experience (echoed by Rand's), recently, ESET has found more malware than MWB, that's with multiple scans on multiple computers. But of course they do not offer a free product other than their on-line scanner.

I like, as Triple_Se7en noted, a layered approach. A periodic scan with MWB on top of a real-time protection product is a good method for keeping your bases covered.

Since you've already got your MWB subscription I'd run it with something like Bitdefender Free unless you feel like also buying NOD32.

I only went with MWB Pro because of the lifetime license for only $15.

I do manual scans every couple weeks now with free Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro & SuperAntiSpyware, and run MSE in real-time. Seems like having Malwarebytes Pro running real time (which covers more than the free Malwarebytes) along with a free anti-virus program like AVG or Avast (which is way better than MSE I hear) would be a pretty good way to to. You think Bitdefender Free is better than AVG or Avast?

Anything is better than MSE at this point, Microsoft has seriously dropped the ball on that product.

I like Avira and Bitdefender over AVG and Avast. I find those two to be too bloated, particularly AVG.

Good to know ... I don't want bloated.

Sounds like BitDefender Free might be the way to go for me. I'm not going to do this whole Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware revamp until my copy of Malwarebytes Pro shows up from Newegg, then I'll uninstall MSE and load MWB Pro and BitDefender Free.
