Malco Eagle Grip Owners Thread

Wish you didn’t have to buy them on Amazon. I’m just glad we still have an option for USA made vise grips. The Snap-on ones are USA made too but I’d hate to see the price of them.

I had a Zoro 20% off in my email. Sign up and they send them out once in awhile. Ordered one Malco in curved jaw 10 inch. I had to get something else to get to the $50 free shipping. Some Proto and Grip On vise grips, both made in Spain. So that’s one more source of the Malco’s.
I see Walmart sells some too, through a tool company, and Snap On has their own version on their website for $78.

I'm glad this company is fulfilling their promises. Remember that this company now makes their locking pliers in the same small town and factory as the old Vice-Grips plant and use as many of the former laid off employees as possible. I live about a half an hour away from where they are being manufactured and decades ago my brother actually worked there during the winter months in the shipping department.
I'll probably being buying his a pair for his Christmas present.
Also the fact that they are using only USA made steel in their pliers is another key factor on why i will be buying more than the one plier i just got.

Malco makes the best 5 blade downspout crimper. If you don’t know what a downspout crimper is you’ve been doing it all wrong.

A quick Google of Malco pliers reveals at least half a dozen tool suppliers, beside Amazon, where you can purchase these.

Received LP10WC pliers. They appear well made with smooth action and the adjusting screw is well done. Pinned and brazed upper handle. The grinding and fit of the wire cutter is perfect. I never used one to cut wire with, but at least it is well made. Happy they are making the effort to make USA products. Buyers do have to be willing to spend a bit more. A few less donuts at the grocery store, and the cost is covered. My box got damaged in shipping, FedEx. I guess it doesn’t matter much, but would rather it wasn’t.

Malco exiting the locking pliers business:

If you like the Eagle Grips or want to try a pair, might want to buy some now while available.
Well…that sure is disappointing. I just ordered a few more from Amazon. The feel and quality of these is a big step above the Chinese made junk that Vise-Grip sells.

Really sad to hear. They are awesome vise grip pliers. I’ll have to get another set or two before they run out. I seen posts about this on GJ but no proof to back them up. I’m sad to see them go now that I know they are actually doing it. I have a set I need to have warrantied because the teeth are smashed on them. Better get on the Snap-on truck and do that soon. No wonder he hasn’t been getting any.

That’s really terrible. Since every Chinese junk supplier seems to be able to make “locking pliers” (and I had to buy some in a pinch once - they were really bad), it’s hard to understand what core competency doesn’t align, especially since it seems like they bought the old tooling.

Probably more like people are addicted to buying third world stuff.

As much as I hate to say it, there is a reason everything moves to a cheaper place to manufacture. It isn't that everyone is addicted to buying third world stuff. Everyone wants more for less money and wants it now.

And to stop any political discussion of it, this had been going on for many decades.

Bummer. Haven't been in the market for these as I don't use the old Craftsman ones I already have all that often, but it's certainly too bad to lose a domestic supplier. I do regularly pay more for US or European made hand tools if available. Wonder why they couldn't make it work. Wiha and others seem to be doing OK in this regard.

They made a good product from what you guys are saying, yet they're saying they're not going to make it anymore because ... they don't have the skills to make them.

No, they don’t have the skills or distribution channel to sell them. The pliers are excellent quality.

Such a shame. was looking to get some more and was hoping that they would come out with some of the other style clamps such as the sheet metal. Here is hoping someone like Channellock or Klein is able to buy out the assets and keep production in the USA but i am not getting my hopes up.
