Hi there!
I've a 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero and I'm about 1/4 litre above the min. mark. The oil has 8000km (5000miles) and I change it every 10000km. In the last oil change I left the engine with around 1/4 litre below the max. mark, so the oil consumption isn't that high.

What do you think, should I top up or should I wait 2000km and change the oil normaly?
When I change the oil I use Mobil Delvac 1 5w40. But I was thinking of toping up with something cheaper, like Motorcraft 15w40.

Thanks in advance

Adding makeup oil does wonders (according to used oil analysis). I always keep my vehicles topped off. I always have open bottles of oil laying around though.

Unless it's below the minimum line, you don't really need to top off. Can't hurt, though. I probably would if it were my car.

x2, it's probably only what, 1 quart between the marks? Just add half a quart and call it good.

If my vehicle needs oil I dont try to do any super measuring, I just add a *dash. My thought is that its better than it was and I'll check it again real soon and add another *dash if need be. I check the oil with every fill up, I have done this all my life. I add a *dash about once a month.

*dash is roughly equal to 8oz

Well, I've no oil lying around, so I need to specially buy it. I know that a top up oil would be cheap, but even so I don't want throw money away.
Anyway, I think I will just top up. I assume that there is no problem in mixing oils. It's like 1/2 litre new oil vs 3 1/2 litre old oil.
