make your own "blend"?

i have an 03 f150 4.6l, i really only use it to tow my boat and winter driving (4x4), i had ran mc 5w20 blend, then for personal reasons i quit using mc oil, i always seem to have a case of mobil clean 5000 5w20 laying around so i decided to make my own blend as a price point/better blend? so i dump in 4 quarts of Mobil 1 5w20 and top it off w 2 qrts mobil clean 5w20 4.6 seems to like it, now on my daily drivers i use full syn. does anyone else mix??

I was mixing Rotella T6 and Rotella T5 (5w-40 and 10w30, respectively) until I realized that the T5 is virtually the same viscosity at any ambient overnight temps I'll see so I stopped.

I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to synthetic 5w-40. 10w30 T5 blend in the winter, whatever 15w40 HDEO I happen to have on hand in the summer. Sounds good.

My 6.5HP Briggs and Stratton push mower is currently filled with about 20% Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Blend 10w30, 20% Honda 10w-40 motorcycle oil, and 50% Pennzoil Platinum 5w30.

I have mixed different weights on the same maker, to use up oil that I had. I cant see a problem with mixing synthetic oil with a conventional of the same maker. I would think their synthetic blend is the same thing with a alot smaller amount of syn. blended in, tha you are using. Tell you the truth the Mobil clean 5000 would probably be fine standing by itself, that oil tested really good and is the new conventional top oil. Unless you are pushing extreme oil intervals, I would use the Mobil clean 5000 alone.

i mix valvoline 5/20 5qts with 2qts valvoline 10/40.
i really just want to run 5w30 but i have a case of 10/40 and a 5qt jug is $13 vs $4 a qt. so i just save $8 and put the 10/40 in.
i dont know if its good or not but the oil is still clean after 1000 miles.

i also have a drip jug that i put spent bottles in to drain. its got everthing from lucas to rp gear oil to mc 5/20 and so on. its up to 3qts. im goin to run it in my lawn mower lol

i do have a close friend that switched back and forth between conv and syn. he ended up having to change the pan gasket and said there was a jello like build up in the bottom. kinda makes me think its not a good idea to mix oils

I run a blend of Eneos 0w-20 (3 quarts) and 0w50 (1.25 quarts) because I got 6 quarts of 0w-20 free but my Maxima specs ONLY 30 weight. If I hadn't scored a free case, I would just have gone with 0w30 or 5w30 and called it good. I don't see any harm in blending, but I see no real advantage either.

I mix all the time now. I stocked up on oil for cars I no longer have, so... I have lots of 30 and 40 weight oils and 3 cars that spec 5W20. Generally I thin down a bit w/ MMO or the odd bottle of 5W20. When something blows up, I'll be sure to post.
