Maintenance logs... How do you keep track of services?

Excel log on steroids...auto-updates service intervals based on my last entered mileage and reminds me with a countdown for when next due. Different tab for each vehicle and I also keep any receipts or records that I may need down the road for warranty, etc.

I use a spreadaheet that tracks mileage, date, parts used, who performed work, and total prices.

Like others, I’m a spiral notebook guy. I keep a section for each vehicle I maintain, where I write down the date, service performed, the miles and the brand I used. Quick reference when I’m in the garage and I can see all vehicles quickly…

I buy Honda’s and do fluids change myself so I don’t have to do maintenance log. I do maintenance log of my finance though. That one is important..lol

I’m still old school and have kept up the practice that I started in 1986 with my first car, I go to the dollar store and buy a thick notebook and I write down all of my oil changes and any maintenance and repairs. I got this habit from my dad. As a kid I always enjoyed going through his old log books that he saved from all of his cars. His were way more detailed than mine though, as he also logged every single tank of fuel and wrote down the MPG as well.

I wish I had kept every single log book from all of the cars I have owned. I’m not sure why I would have gotten rid of any of them but I only have the ones for the last 20 years (starting with my 1998 Corvette that I owned from 2004-2013)

I use spritmonitor online account and app to track refueling and maintenance on my their vehicles. It also has a handy notification feature

My wife made a maintenance form for both vehicles . Just the basics . Date , mileage , service performed . I keep it in a file folder with all of the receipts . I have no need to for all of that other fluff .

It moves around iCloud between Mac and iPhone.

I used to keep a spreadsheet. Then I went to SimplyAuto app. Now I have moved to LubeLog, an open source app: https://github.com/hargata/lubelog

Obviously not for everyone. But for me, it is fantastic and I can mold it to what I need/want if I choose to take the time.

I use MS OneNote. I have a document for each car with notes I discover over time like torque values, air pressures, and capacities. There is a section for each where I capture maintenance logs. Works well.

I'm not sure why...I keep a folder with all my receipts. I have always traded vehicles in-and as the numerous stories on here and elsewhere prove-the dealer at trade in time could care less.......

I keep my cars til they're ready for the scrap heap - anything "major" like spark plugs etc I'll write on the air cleaner box, oil changes are kept track of using the sticker on the windshield.

Even when selling a car I've never had anyone ask for maintenance history.

I get the point of keeping records, but some people hilariously over-do it, no point in writing when you bought wiper blades or put a plug in your 7 year old tire , or bought a touch up pen for the 2 inch scratch on the lf fender (yes I've seen that in someones log book)

Dealers could care even less. They are much more concerned with appearance and how many miles-that's about it.

I have a spiral notebook for each car. I divide it into 3 sections; fuel, maintenance/repairs and accessories. Each car also has a file folder with all maintenance records and/or receipts.

I do maintenance or repairs when required and don’t record any of it. Receipts for warrantied parts go in the glovebox, but they are usually unreadable by the time warranty is required. It’s been over a decade since I had to have a part warrantied. I’ve never had an issue selling a used car, since they look nice, their state of maintenance is assumed to be good.

I only keep fuel logs.
Nobody cares about the maintenance logs when it comes to selling. So I don’t bother.

I keep all my maintenance in my iPhone note app. I track monthly mileage there as well. I do this for my own personal tracking, not for a future sale of my vehicle or anything like that. I’ll also track my kids vehicles maintenance on there which comes in handy because I don’t lay close attention to how much they drive, etc.

I personally would like to find a nice app that could easily do all this. I’ve used carfax, I don’t care for it. A previous vehicle I owned had a maintenance tracking system that would actually give you an icon of the service procedure…oil change, air filters, tranny, coolant, whatever. You’d reset the icon when you did the service and it would automatically tick away mileage as you drive. To check all you’d do is click on it and it would tell you much you’ve travelled and how many miles remaining until your next service (you’d set the mileage parameters).

I’d like something like this^^, but in an app. Or something I could plug into the vehicle.

I write in a paper note pad and keep receipts for parts and any service not completed by me. Back in the day there were blank pages in back of the owners manual and I recorded in there.
