Mail truck broke down?

Wife called me yesterday about 2p to tell me to get the mail from our mailbox ( box is a mile from the house) because at that time the little square box they deliver mail with was blocking our mailbox.

About 5:30p I got there and it was still there . Flashers on and nobody around.

This morning @7:10a I passed by and it's still there. There is mail in it. They always pile it up by the windshield . The battery is weak now as the flashers are barely flashing.

Seems odd to leave it out on a road with mail in it all night long. Even more so since the local tow companies would jump on that tow and charge $1000± per hour plus storage or more to deal with it.

My first question would be is it a true postal vehicle, or a personal vehicle owned by an independent contractor?
My next question would be where is the postman?
Is it a breakdown? A medical emergency? A case of foul play?
If I saw that (especially the next morning,) I'd dial 911.

I know this is a bit off topic but...:
There was a cool book that featured a a guy in a broken down mailtruck trudging down the road to deliver the mail.
Not knowing a Major Asteriod had hit the earth and knocked out the grid ( which was the cause of the earthquake that kocked his truck into the ditch.
It wac alled Lucifers Hammer
(nothing to do with deviltry just the name people gave post apoc to
the asteroid)

The mail truck broke down in front of your mailbox? And then about a month ago a UPS truck broke down on your property?

Your address is the Bermuda Triangle for mail delivery.
Dude did you forget when some tweaker ran all the neighborhood boxes down and then they wouldn't deliver his mail because the box was too low?

I kept telling Chris to put on his big boy panties and borrow/beg a welder and go fix it, but he apparently didn't like my suggestion. Better to complain on BITOG it seems

Its the square box he drives. Reported it this morning. One of these.

I don't know the first thing about metal fabrication and my welding isnt much better. I tried to straighten the rack using the hydraulics on the rear of my tractor and it could not lift it back into place.

I then tried my hi- lift jack I carry around in my jeep and it just sheared its overload pin off.

I talked to the mail man and he pointed out the destroyed mailboxes that were not being used. So I put my box where one of those was.

I recommend this book highly.
The characters deal with Earth being hit by an asteroid.
It could be the most down-to-Earth example of science fiction ever written.

Senator: What are the chances of it hitting Earth now?
Astronomer: 100 to 1.
Senator: Last week you said 1,000 to 1?
Astronomer: I know!
