Does anyone have any experience with Magnum MaxDry gaskets? I am looking into replacing the valve cover gaskets on the GP and RockAuto lists a MaxDry set (including grommets) that is priced just lower than the Victor Reinz and Fel-Pro sets. The slight price difference is not my main interest in them, but there is a good chance they are made in the USA (they claim 90% of their products are engineered, manufactured, and packaged in the US) and I thought I'd give them a shot if others have had good experiences. There is only one review for my product on Amazon and their complaint is that some of the grommets ripped during install.

It was my understanding that ALL Victor Reinz gaskets were made here as well.

Hello. I'm the Director of Engineering for the Magnum Gasket line. I thought I'd join the forum to answer NMburb02 questions.

You are correct, 90% of all of the Magnum product line is made in the US. All of our products are made to our specs and thoroughly evaluated.

We looked into the complaint that was posted on Amazon concerning the splitting of the grommets. We found that the grommet didn't split when the sleeve/bolt assembly was inserted into the grommet, but sometimes did split when the entire assembly was removed from the cover. The three tabs in the grommet are there to securely hold the assembly into the cover, and aren't really meant be removed and reused.

I hope this answers your concerns and questions. Feel free to post anything else, and I'll respond.

Thanks for your comments.

Nice seeing a vendor on here answering questions.

I really enjoy reading people complaining about a product failing when it was obviously used outside its operational parameters. Posts like the Amazon review reinforce the idea that people throw the instructions away when installing parts.
