I got my car from my grandmother, who had it for 5 years before I did. She gave me a great deal, so when I discovered that the rear driver's side window didn't roll down I didn't care. I elected not to fix it since I don't roll the rear windows down very much anyway.

Fast forward 5 years: 3 weeks ago my passenger side rear window regulator went out with the window part way open (I noticed this in a downpour), replaced regulator and all is fine. Now yesterday I accidentally bumped the rear window switches instead of the front (I do this often, poor placement of the switch I think since the rears come readily to hand) and the rear driver's side window now works!

I tried it after replacing the other side's regulator and it didn't work. The only thing I came up with is that the car sat in ~100 degree heat for 8 days while I was out of town... maybe it loosened something up? Otherwise I'm at a loss to explain this.

Probably a plastic pulley deformed enough for the regulator to work again. Or some grease broke down enough to penetrate something and loosen it up.

Yeah, something like that I'm sure. The whole assembly did not strike me as particularly robust when I replaced the other one...
