Is MAG1 Full Synthetic 5w-30 "capable" to run 10k?
  • "Created for extreme hot and cold driving conditions: stop and go, frequent short trips, heavy loads and dusty conditions.

It will probably be good for 10,000 miles as long as you don't use an paper filter, you don't get fuel dilution, viscosity breakdown from shearing, ect.
Ever do any oil tests?

Have not done any oil test.

Current filter Fram Ultra XG3600
Thanks for input. Grateful.

Well-it says 20,000 on the label! (Seriously, without oil analysis it's kind of a crapshoot anyway-10K of short trip stop & go is FAR HARDER on oil than 10K loafing on the Interstate in overdrive!).

This stuff is just Supertech on a stick. Good stuff. Nothing wrong with it. Price would be the only deterance from using it. Supertech is $18 every day for 5 quarts and Kirkland is $15 on sale right now.

As for how long you can run it? Answer is ALWAYS, get an oil sample. Nobody here can tell you if it can or can't. I would run it for 5K, if good, run to 7500, then to 10K. Send in an oil sample after every interval.

Well it's not a known fuel dilution engine.
What milage are you running the oil up to currently?
Does Toyota recommend 10k mile oci for that year make and model?
What I would do is run the maximum oci for your environment and mode of operation and do an oil test.
You'll find out if you can go longer or if you should go shorter. Maybe you can go 13,000 miles, maybe your find out it's a bad idea to go over 9,000. Never know.
For example if you do mostly highway driving you can probably go to longer than factory recommend oci.

🤣 Yes it does!

Received. I should pony up and have oil analysis done. Your thoughts on MAG1 vs Quaker State Ultimate Protection? Which has "better" additive pack or base oil?

Always at 5k OCI. Toyota recommends 5k OCI for 06 Tacoma. V6 Engine is running flawlessly (355 000 miles). Time to get off my butt and have oil analysis done. Am I incorrect to assume oils have significantly improved since 2006? Thank you for the feed back. Grateful.

2006 Tacoma V6 TRD 4x4
I believe that vehicle has the 4.0L 1GRFE engine. If so that engine is super easy on oil. You can run any synthetic oil in it for 10,000 miles no problem.

My 07 FJ Cruiser w/232,000 miles has that engine. I've owned it since 2009 and have never changed the oil before 10,000 miles. I've gone as much as 18,000 miles between changes. Its never needed any engine work or thrown a code.

Maybe don't jump straight to a 10k oci if 5k is recommended.
Biggest difference between 2005 and now is you can't get an oil made of all group 1 oils.
The worst PCMO I know of that can still be had is around 70 to 80% group 2 and 20% to 30% group 1. That's Walmart 5,000 mile oil. Having a significant portion of group 1 base is automatically going to make it a 5,000 mile oil.
Maybe do a 6,000 mile oil change and send a sample to get tested.
Or find someone on here that has a Tacoma with that same engine and has posted oil tests.
Maybe you'll find the oil viscosity breaks down in regular oils from shearing because it's got a big old timing chain and to get 10k miles you need something like hpl or amsoil that's immune to shearing.

Thanks sir.Yes same engine! Good to hear. My current goal reach 500k miles. I average about 18 -20K a year.
