Drew99GT,

You must be talking to my co-worker! He makes a VERY good case for deficit spending: Deficit spending is required to continue the influx of foreign capital, by increasing the supply of T-Bills, the investment of choice for conservative foreign and domestic money managers.

I actually think it may lead to serious economic hardship in the future (defecit spending/trade defecits); historically it has. Look at Mexico (granted, Mexico is a bit more corrupt than we are

! ) I'm about as frugile as they come though, so on a pure philisophical level, I just don't see the desire of what the US has become today (a pure pleasure me now, the **** with tomarow mentality). But consumer spending is what keeps us employed running the infrastructure to consume 3/4 of what the world produces for us!

Man, if Americans did that (especially with our current day logistical/economic situation where most textiles and consumer products are made abroad), I think the country would have collapsed many years ago. And that is my worry about the United States and the way we are. If China and India turn into neo United Stateses, then I think we'll have to turn Antarctica into a Landfill! Hey, that'll provide work

Yeah if everyone did that at once we would be in trouble. But if it is gradual and even the gov't did same, we would all be better off.

Don't give up the ship..stay aboard..Viet Nam has a HUGE offshore oil supply..that's why we were there..have you noticed that the VC Rep just got in town..wonder why....think they might be talking about oil???

Between deep ocean drilling, Alberta's oil sands, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Siberia's immense untapped wealth we have not seen anything yet.

Only problem is exploration and techologies.

Russia can crack OPEC wide open once it can get stable oil transits to Asia/India/Japan.

Once the transit infrastructure is complete we need to get exploring in Russia/Kazaxh asap before Chinese or European surveying firms beat us there.

Technology to reduce emmissions for the passenger car must proceed regardless of much oil we can get.

What do they say in chess - the end game?

New high on oil prices ...

Under the surface, the news about long-term trends for oil prices looks even worse. For the next three to five years, the trend is toward higher prices with even greater peaks and valleys.

"The long-term news on oil prices breaks down into three areas:
The announced depletion of two major existing fields.

The resulting rise in political volatility for oil prices.

The rising costs of finding new oil."
